Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and dependable people to join and become part of our team. We have opportunities within the Forensic Care group at Newton Lodge to work within a hard-working, highly motivated domestic and catering ward orderly team within a medium secure setting.

The team provide a polite, professional, and efficient domestic and catering service for our service users staff and visitors.

You will be required to work to, and maintain, standards as set by the NHS cleaning specifications. You will be supported by a full training package and induction.

Enthusiasm and dedication to provide a clean safe environment is essential.

Main duties of the job

The role provides a high standard of domestic, catering, and general duties within a hospital environment.

Provision of cleaning and domestic duties with requirement to work to, and maintain, standards as set by the NHS cleaning specifications.

To regenerate prepare and serve meals in accordance with set standards. Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards and ensuring all work is conducted in line with health and safety.

Maintaining up to date documentation which contributes to the high-quality service delivery.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills demonstrating a drive to maintain a consistent high service standard.

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To provide a high standard of domestic, catering and general household duties within a ward environment for people with mental health problems. To assist and monitor patients, in cleaning and tidying their own bedroom environment. To liaise with ward staff in the allocation of ward based cleaning tasks for service users. To monitor, encourage and assist the service users to ensure that an acceptable standard of work is maintained.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Strictly apply the rule of confidentiality with regard to confidential information concerning service users and their care.

Maintain confidentiality regarding colleagues in order not to compromise their safety or well being.

Safeguard all information appertaining to the safety and security of the Unit.

Ensure that all relevant information obtained during the course of interactions with service users is shared with the nurse in charge of the ward area.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

  1. Service user contact
    • To assist patients in their activities of daily living, ensuring that they have adequate supplies and assistance to maintain their personal standards.
    • To build a good therapeutic relationship with service users, in order to encourage and assist them, in taking care of their own living space.
    • To immediately report any anxieties or concerns to the nurse in charge of the ward and domestic supervisor.
    • To ensure the ward or department is cleaned and maintained in a manner which promotes positive therapeutic interactions.
    • Monitor and report to nurse in charge of a ward area and the domestic supervisor, any concerns or identified problems, in terms of a service users dietary needs.
    • Monitor and advise patients on healthy eating options where required.
    • Alert nurse in charge to any food item found, which contravenes units banned and dangerous items policy.
    • Ensure that ward duties for all patients are allocated in a fiar and just manner.
    • Ensure appropriate budget is effectively managed to ensure patients receive agreed recompense for completion of ward tasks. Completing payment authorisation forms as required.
  1. Housekeeping Duties

1. Receive and store all food in accordance with set standards and Trust policy.

2. Maintain accurate records in relation to food storage and regeneration in accordance with trust and unit policies and procedures.

3. To regenerate/prepare and serve meals and sundry items of food in accordance with set standards.

4. To prepare for meal times in accordance with set standards.

5. To prepare for the requisitioning of sundry items of food, cleaning materials, linen and equipment for authorisation by the clinical leader.

6. To store linen, personal clothing as laundered and ensure sufficient is available at all times to meet requirements.

7. To launder bed linen within the Unit as required and in accordance with Trust policy#

General Duties

Damp dust all items of in bed area, e.g. bedside cabinets, bed frame, chairs etc (furniture in bed areas, where not fixed to be moved once a week to facilitate cleaning of pipes, skirting and ledges).

Damp dust all other furniture and fittings, e.g. table, trolleys, windowsills.

Removal of refuse from all areas, including ashtrays.

Dishwashing

Washing up teacups, saucers, side plates and cutlery after beverages and main meals.

Cleaning of bulk food heated trolleys after each meal service.

Cleaning of kitchen surfaces.

Cleaning of catering equipment.

Damp mopping of kitchen floor. Spot mop spillages.

Sanitary Fittings

Cleaning w.c. pans, urinals, bidets and slop hoppers.

Cleaning of wash hand basins, baths and showers.

Cleaning of fittings e.g. tiled splash back, mirror and towel cabinet.

Damp mopping sanitary and sluice areas.

Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet rolls and soap.

Floor Care

Dry mop and sweep all floors to remove dust and refuse.

Damp mop all floor areas and spot mop to remove spillage.

Machine scrubbing of all hard floors.

Vacuum carpeted areas.

Hot water extraction cleaning of carpets.

Clean all equipment thoroughly.

Weekly Duties

High dusting of walls and fitting e.g. bed rails, door frames, high ledges, signs.

Damp dusting all pipes and ledges.

Thoroughly clean all catering equipment, e.g. cookers, fridges etc.

Periodic Duties

Maintenance of hard floor surfaces, e.g. scrubbing and drying, redressing floor surfaces where applicable.

Carpet maintenance using hot water extraction machine.

Washing of paintwork.

Cleaning of rooms prior to new admissions.

Curtain changing.

Thorough cleaning of furniture.

Through cleaning of all equipement and machinery used in domestic duties.

Cleaning of store cupboards for materials, equipment, etc

Security

Ensure that all necessary security checks are followed when operating a servery.

Ensure that all unit security policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Immediately report any untoward incident in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures.

General

To maintain all documentation which contributes to the monitoring and delivery of a high quality, efficient cleaning and catering service.

To carry out duties having regard and consideration for all relevant Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and COSHH Regulations.
