CAMHS Eating Disorder Healthcare Assistant

Calderdale and Kirklees Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) has an exciting opportunity to recruit to a post within the Eating Disorder team and will include the developing ARFID pathway.

These posts are part of a service development to provide additional support to both the Eating Disorder Team and embed an ARFID pathway within it to ensure the needs of these children, young people and their families are met.

By identifying children and young people earlier and providing the right support, we can work with families to provide a dedicated treatment plan to be able to, prevent escalation and reduce long term difficulties and decrease the pressures in the ED and acute services.

We are looking for someone highly motivated and enthusiastic who has an interest in Eating Disorders and ARFID. We are a community team who works weekdays and cover the Calderdale and Kirklees area.

Support is offered both from the team and wider service. The service support professional development. We take pride in working together to maintain a supportive and friendly workplace that enables our staff to thrive and influence positive change to the lives of the young people and families who have the support of our service.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a part of a Eating Disorder pathway and will support the team in developing and driving this pathway within the Eating Disorders service. This will include supporting service development based on best practice guidelines and existing research and evidence. Further requirements can be found within the person specification and job description. You will deliver high quality interventions following care planning, treatment and regular reviews (CPA) from the qualified practitioners in your team for children and young people who meet the criteria of the pathway with a diagnosis/presentation of both Eating Disorders and ARFID.

This could include daily meal support for young people, offering support within groups for both parents and young people or offering packages of intervention as agreed with the qualified staff. Someone who can engage with people well and is able to work well within a team. You would receive supervision and line management regularly to ensure you feel well supported and able to deliver the agreed work to a high standard.

Visa sponsorship under the Health and Care Worker visa route can only be considered if the prorated salary meets the minimum threshold of £25,000, as required by the UK Visas and Immigration. For Band 3 roles, only full-time positions at the top of the pay scale meet this threshold. Therefore, sponsorship may not be possible depending on salary increment placement and working hours.

Assist in dealing with verbal/physical aggression using de-escalation techniques, this may include the need for restraint and/or seclusion (as appropriate to the role).

Support service users with personal care duties (bathing, toileting, dressing, support with meals, assist patients with their appearance), as part of a healthcare team, provide the highest standards of safe and compassionate planned care to people that maximises their recovery and rehabilitation potential.

Undertakes a limited range of delegated clinical care duties relevant to the service provided/work area and records patient observations: e.g. taking blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, observing patients for signs of agitation or distress, removal of peripheral cannula urinalysis, removal of catheter.
