An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced & motivated nurse with exceptional skills & knowledge to join our Neuro Rehabilitation Unit (NRU) at Kendray Hospital

The NRU is a 12 bedded local specialist rehabilitation unit that provides a neurological rehabilitation service which enables patients with long term neurological conditions including patients with an acute injury or episode, to access rehabilitation that is coordinated, timely & responsive to patient needs

The Sister/Charge Nurse will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team assisting in leading the way in the provision of outstanding patient care and innovative nursing practice

We are seeking nurse leaders who can support ward managers to help build a confident, high-quality & caring team who are experts in their field. Youll be responsible for championing rehabilitation nursing & supporting nursing staff, while working alongside other multi-disciplinary colleagues

This role is both exciting and challenging.

Main duties of the job

As Sister/Charge Nurse on our specialist NRU you will

Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessment of patients

JOB SUMMARY

To ensure that all patients transferred to the Neurological Unitaccess a specialist rehabilitation service according to individual need.

To provide and maintain a high quality of individualised patient and carer support by effectively co-ordinating all available resources, identifying shortfalls and contributing in their solution.

To provide support to the Neurological Services Manager in the area of clinical leadership and nursing and care staff.

To assist with improving and maintaining services to people with a Neurological diagnosis by providing advice and information.

To participate in the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of all programmes of care using identified care pathways and in line with the NHS Long Term Plan.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

  • To be based within the Neurlogical Rehabilition team and assist in the co-ordination of care for all patients within the Neurological service
  • Actively encourage in an understanding and sensitive manner the participation of the patient and relatives in the planning and provision of care. To personalise and improve the care given
  • To be involved in the assessment and management of patients with swallowing difficulties with supervision from speech and language therapy when needed
  • To be responsible for assessing telephone enquries from the general public, residential and nursing home staff leading to giving advice or attending the patient to carry out an assessment and/or treatment
  • To participate and contribute to the development of interdisciplinary working in Neurological Rehabilitation
  • To assist the Neurological Rehabilitation Services Manager with the provision of education and training for all staff including student nurses and post registration students.
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care and the setting of standards to facilitate maximum potential and rehabilitation of patients
  • To maintain accurate records with regards to legal aspects, confidentiality and management information requirements, and to participate in record keeping audit within the trust policies and procedures and guidelines
  • Report incidents, accidents and complaints, participate in corrective action and monitor the outcome in order to maintain a safe working environment
  • Record all patient contacts and activities accurately and comtemporaneously maintaining accurate records and statistical returns
