We have an exciting
opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly
and welcoming Intensive Support Team (IST). We are looking for a Specialist Speech
and Language Therapist who is motivated and enthusiastic, to work with adults
with a learning disability and mental health problems and/or behaviours of
concerns, who are at risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission and
require intensive input from a multidisciplinary team. This can be a
development post for a band 5 to 6 Speech and Language Therapist.
The successful candidate would
offer speech and language input to vulnerable clients and receive job
satisfaction of knowing you are making a significant impact on a persons
quality of life by helping those around them to understand them.
The IST is part of the
Community Learning Disability Health Team, and we place a strong emphasis on
multidisciplinary working. We have strong and effective links with our partner
agencies including the local authority and ICB as well as local care providers.
This post will be based at the
Mapplewell Centre, which has a specialist sensory room and a rebound therapy
room. The service is open Monday to Friday 9 to 5. We can offer flexible
working hours and an agile working policy.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist is
to assess the service users communication needs and provide advice and
training to ensure the services users needs are understood by carers and
services that are supporting them.
You will be an integral part of the IST and contribute
towards assessments, formulations and interventions based on your clinical
experience, assessments and observations.
You will also be required to work independently and to make
autonomous decisions. In this role you will be given freedom to use your own
initiative and we will welcome candidates with a can do attitude.
You will receive clinical supervision from a Senior Speech
and Language therapist, whilst also having the opportunity to link in with colleagues
in the other ISTs and community teams.
A key aspect of the post is the role of care coordination
and working closely with other agencies to bring about successful outcomes for
our service users.
