Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Barnsley Memory Assessment and Support Service as Senior Occupational Therapist. The role will be varied and include innovating and maintaining the high standards of clinical care for the people of Barnsley experiencing memory problems.
The person we are looking for will be able to support diagnosis of individuals with memory difficulties using a variety of assessments, they will be able to off support to carers and professional staff in non therapeutic interventions and support group activities for people with a diagnosed memory illness and their carers.
Barnsley Memory Assessment and Support Service is a busy team with strong multi professional approach including Psychiatrists, Psychology and Occupational Therapy colleagues as well as a broad nursing team. All working together to assess with a view to obtaining a diagnosis if appropriate, review and offer pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for people with Dementia.
The candidate should have a good understanding of the symptoms associated with dementia and how this may affect people and their day to day lives and the additional support that they and their carers will require.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join the established occupational therapist in the team to offer assessment and inventions as identified. They will also help facilitate group activities and be involved in the development of future group activities as appropriate.
The Occupational therapist work alongside the multi professional team to ensure the best support available to the person with a memory problem and their carer. They will be expected to manage their own caseload, allocate OT referrals and support junior members of the team through supervision.
