We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced carer support worker to join our friends and family carer support service in Barnsley. The post is 30 hours per week and will be based at the recovery college in Barnsley although you will be working agile with carers across the locality.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, motivated and skilled service that provides a flexible, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday service for the carers of the Barnsley area.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, organised and creative person and someone who is passionate about supporting those that care for someone living with a mental health condition. They will have excellent communication skills, already have experience of working with carers, and understand the issues and concerns of carers of people with mental health needs along with a commitment to person centred care and service development.

They will work effectively and independently providing care act assessment, formulation, intervention and signposting in both a one-to-one and group settings with carers who support service users with mental health difficulties.

Main duties of the job

Based at Barnsley recovery college you will work flexibly, hold a full UK driving license with access to a car and deliver 1:1 and group-based interventions. You will undertake delegated duties, working collaboratively across services delivering therapeutic interventions to our carers in Barnsley. Managing a caseload and meeting service needs, you will work in a collaborative and compassionate manner developing therapeutic relationships, completing initial carer needs assessments, and developing safe and effective evidence-based care plans. This encompasses delivering psychoeducation, social prescribing and 1:1 motivational support in promoting health and wellbeing. Occasionally working with the whole family alongside psychology staff. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams, liaise effectively and compliment both statutory and voluntary agencies. You will assist in maintaining and developing the carers services and act as a lead in strategies such as carer lead network, communicating changes to health care teams, and monitoring and reviewing team standards. You will access clinical supervision and annual appraisals. Mandatory training will be completed alongside identified specialist training. You will work within trusts policies, procedures, and legal and statutory frameworks. Maintain records, confidentiality as well as confidently using the electronic record system.

To provide time limited practical and emotional support to Carers as part of a planned package of care following a carers assessment and within a multi-disciplinary team approach and collaborative care planning process.

The post holder will:

  2. To maintain and manage a caseload relevant to carer needs. To act as leads in strategies across the BDU including planning carer lead network, carer passport, staff care passport and carers forums.
  3. To assist in developing and maintaining carers services
  4. Work as an effective member of all multi-disciplinary teams, liaising effectively with both statutory and voluntary agencies. This includes being active members of collaborative care planning meetings.
  5. Maintain accurate records, according to the Trusts policies and procedures.
  6. To actively participate in appropriate training and development programmes. To access clinical supervision, to develop skills and knowledge from a psychological perspective.
  7. Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
