We are seeking a special College Principal who has a passionate for helping others to share their own experiences for the mutual benefit of others and themselves. They must be someone who can lead a team of enthusiastic and highly motivated people to deliver a wide and ever changing portfolio of courses, activities, sports and events. The Recovery College in Barnsley is one of our best kept secrets. Its doors are open to those who find it difficult to access traditional routes into education and community-based activities. The College provides help, support and advice to those experiencing challenges with their mental health and wellbeing to develop and grow through education and sharing their personal experience. We are currently developing our offer out into the 6 neighbourhoods which make up the Barnsley Borough. We need someone who can help us develop and deliver on our vision to ensure that all areas of Barnsley have access to courses and activities closer to their homes. They will ensure that all our courses which will enable, empower, increase confidence in the person and challenge misconceptions about mental health and wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

As the College Principal it is expected that you would be responsible for reaching out to other partners to promote and to co-produce our learning opportunities. Working with others is key to the colleges success so the ability to engage with others at every level is essential. The college has staff from a wide range of backgrounds bringing with them an eclectic mix of skills, knowledge and experiences., It will be the post holders role to ensure that our staff are able to develop their potential within a culture of mutual respect. The overall management and leadership of the College lies with the post holder which covers everything from health and safety to ensuring that our yearly prospectus of courses, activities meet the needs of our learners and prospective learners. Throughout the year new opportunities arise which will need to be woven into the colleges offer. So the post holder needs to be flexible, innovative and willing to listen.

Provide the organisation, direction and management of the College and leadership of the staff, whilst developing a suitably ambitious and timely vision that inspires and motivates students and others.

Develop effective and sustainable partnerships with local employers and educational facilities to provide a wide range of education and training opportunities.

JOB DIMENSIONS

To hold a budget for full staffing requirements. To have full responsibility for online ordering of supplies.

To line manage staff and be responsible for recruitment or act as recruiting officer responsible for training, appraisals etc.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide inspiring and motivating leadership to staff, students and others.

2. Ensure high quality arrangements exist for teaching, learning and student support and that the College delivers courses that are relevant and are of high quality.

3. Strive to make the College an inclusive, student-centred organisation and an effective learning environment for all College users.

4. Ensure that information systems are in place which provides robust data to support, promote and advertise the College in a manner that provokes and promotes interest and business.

  1. Make certain that the College is, at all times, and committed to development and personal growth of all individuals it employs or serves.

6. Ensure that the College is effectively and equitably represented and promoted in local, regional and national forums.

7. Ensure that information from external sources is disseminated widely throughout the College to the appropriate people and is accessible to the students in their own unique journey.

8. Maintain and develop the Colleges partnerships with higher education institutions/adult learning programmes to meet the further education and accreditation needs of students.

9. To establish and agree the educational character and strategic priorities of the College. It will be the Principals role to implement policies and provide leadership to College staff, ensuring that they share and reflect the Colleges mission, values and aspirations.

10. Introduce strategies that promote effective and positive partnerships with local business, community organisations, third sector and educational facilities that can offer a wider variety of opportunities to students following attendance at College.

11. Lead and contribute to the development and implementation and monitoring of the College Prospectus. Ensure timely and regular review and audit of the College prospectus.

12. Develop a clear mission statement and code of conduct and be responsible for its adherence.

13. Develop a variety of tools that reviews and evaluates the college prospectus, its code of conduct and its mission statement.

14. Ensure that the College offers the highest quality service to its students, and fosters a culture of excellence and innovation.

15. Ensure the effective review of policies and procedures will involve the staff, students and others.

16. Contribute to the training of staff to ensure the effective implementation of policies and systems agreed by SWYFT.

17. Lead and contribute to the development and maintenance of effective communication within and beyond the College and act as an ambassador for the College and an advocate of its interests.

18. The Principal will adopt flexible working methods to meet the changing needs of the College
