Are you a forward-thinking Staff Nurse looking to move into the exciting area of specialist Neuro Rehabilitation?If so, we are looking for full and part time employees to join our Neuro Rehabilitation Unit (NRU) at Kendray Hospital.

The NRU is a 12 bedded local specialist rehabilitation unit that provides a neurological rehabilitation service which enables patients with long term neurological conditions including patients with an acute injury or episode, to access rehabilitation that is coordinated, timely & responsive to patient needs.

Staff Nurses will work in partnership with a multi professional team contributing to the ongoing assessment, providing care & monitoring the condition & health needs of patients on a continual basis in partnership with the multi-professional team.

We are committed to delivering high standards of multi-disciplinary patient focused care; the post holder would be an integral part of this process and will be essential to improving service delivery.

Main duties of the job

As Staff Nurse on our specialist NRU you will:

Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessment.

Work within a multi-professional team.

Contribute actively to the rehabilitation process working alongside therapy colleagues.

Provide high standards of nursing care as defined by the patients care plan, reviewing & updating when care needs change & evidence this.

Act as a practice supervisor, to nursing assistants & students to support their learning/development.

Have the ability to communicate effectively, with sensitivity & compassion & manage relationships with people.

You will have the skills & breadth of knowledge providing holistic person-centred care & support.

The right candidate will be willing to learn & progress their knowledge, be committed to teamwork & delivering high quality patient care. You will have a positive attitude with a focus on team learning & support.

To provide and maintain a high quality of individualised patient care by effectively using all available resources.

To assess, implement, monitor and evaluate the care and treatment of all inpatients in partnership with the patient and their relatives/carers.

Designated to take charge regularly of the ward, which provides rehabilitation, respite and continuing care in the absence of the sister/charge nurse.

Identify potential problems and report them to sister/manager.

Participate in the teaching, education and training of all ward based staff including student nurses, post registration students, NVQ students, patients and relatives/carers.

Required on an ad hoc basis to be senior nurse bleep holder. (For cardiac arrest and absence reporting).

To support ward sister/manager by contributing to the day to day running of the ward to ensure high standards of quality care is delivered which adequately meet the expectations of patients and carers and to ensure privacy and dignity is maintained.

To carry out assessment of patient care needs and the planning and implementation of programme of care including discharge and to monitor and evaluate care as delegated. Respecting and involving families and carers appropriately.

Reporting at handover any patient changes, to ensure continuity of care.

To assist in the education of relatives / carers to enable them to develop relevant skills they would need to carry out on discharge.

To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

In absence of ward sister/charge nurse to delegate work appropriately to team members, participate in ward rounds, MDTs and Best Interest Meeting.

To report incidents, accidents, and complaints promptly to ensure corrective action taken. To be aware of and implement Health and Safety within the workplace in order to maintain a safe working environment.

To be aware of and implement all Trust and departmental organisation and clinical policies and procedures including infection control.

To participate and assist in the development and introduction of research / evidence based practice, innovations and NICE guidelines / standards and CQC outcomes.

To take every reasonable training opportunity to improve and develop professional knowledge and skills.
