that an exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Yorkshire Smokefree
Barnsley Team to help the service develop stop smoking opportunities in the
South area of Barnsley. Yorkshire Smokefree is a cluster of services
throughout the Yorkshire region that provide local stop smoking support to
those people that would like to stop smoking and in the past year, Yorkshire Smokefree
Barnsley has been given the accolade of being the number one service across the
Yorkshire and Humber region and 2nd nationally, in successfully
supporting clients to stop. This 12-month fixed tern post would be a great
opportunity for, someone who is interested in making a difference to the people
of Barnsley and supporting the public healths smoke free agenda, to join this
prestigious team. The 12-month funding for this post has been provided by
Barnsley Council with a view to a possible extension of funds, depending on the
extension of contract.
Main duties of the job
The
development and promotion of the service in Barnsley, including delivering stop
smoking brief intervention training, is key to the success of the
service. This exciting opportunity will involve working within many
different specialist areas such as primary and secondary care, routine and
manual workers, clients with mental health issues and clients from identified
areas of deprivation as well as working with a wealth of different health care
professionals. There will be a requirement to work closely with representatives
from both the south area and the wider Barnsley community.
Additionally,attendance at operational/planning meetings will be
required. The post holder will have a proven track record of working
within local communities and have experience of working alongside other
organisations.
The
post holder must be a keen team player and able to work independently and at
the same time maintain good communications with colleagues within the service,
acrossthe Barnsley area. The post holder must have excellent
communication and interpersonal skills together with tact, diplomacy, respect
for confidentiality and a non-judgemental outlook.

- Work with people to change their behaviour to improve their health.

- To deliver excellent levels of customer service to people, and address or report, in a timely and proactive manner, where these standards have not been met.
- To plan and deliver smoking cessation advice and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications, working within recommended protocols and guidelines. This will involve individual, telephonic, on-line and group work sessions in a variety of settings and venues, working closely with the central Yorkshire Smokefree telephonic Hub staff as required.
- Develop individually tailored support plans including recommending treatments based on assessed needs.
- Provide information to people about stopping smoking and health-related issues in line with best guidance and protocols.
- Provide general health and lifestyle advice and support to people using the service, e.g. healthy eating, physical activity, stress management. This will include individual and group based interventions, signposting and referring to other health, community and voluntary services.
