Job summary
This is an
exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Speech and Language
Therapist to join the Barnsley community learning disability team in a band 5
to 6 developmental post. You will work from at our base
in Mapplewell Health Centre, where we have access to a specialist sensory room
and a rebound therapy room. Mapplewell Health Centre has free parking and
facilities for charging electric cars. We support agile working and can discuss
flexible working arrangements if needed.
As a Speech and
Language Therapist you will provide therapy for service users
with a learning disability who are in receipt of care from community services.
You will be an integral
member of our friendly and welcoming multi-disciplinary team
and of the wider Speech and Language Therapy team across the Trust.
The post holder will also contribute to the leadership and development
of the Specialist Learning Disability Health Team in accordance with local and
national guidance. You will receive supervision from a Specialist Speech and
Language Therapist
Main duties of the job
As the Speech
and Language Therapist, you will provide assessment for the differential diagnosis of
communication difficulties and you will undertake dysphagia training, if you
have not already done so. You will undertake specific standardised and
non-standardised assessments to formulate treatment plans in conjunction with
the service user, family and carers.
You will
interpret assessment results to plan and implement a speech and language
therapy treatment programme to achieve therapeutic goals. Your individual
treatment plans will follow evidence-based practice and will enable
service users to engage in a range of community-based treatment activities.
You will
evaluate the effectiveness of speech and language therapy interventions by
undertaking audits, using outcome measures and service user satisfaction
questionnaires.
You will deliver
interventions where necessary to assist in transition from an inpatient to a
community setting.
You will work
within the multi-agency team, ensuring that both and verbal communication is
clearly maintained.
You will arrange/attend
clinical team meetings, referral meetings, case conferences, care programme
approach meetings as required and as directed by the Lead AHP.
You will participate
in monthly clinical and managerial supervision.
