Job summary
We
will consider exceptional candidates who express a specific interest in education
& ensuring the provision & management of a high-quality learning
environment, but who do not possess the required post registration
qualification. If successful, such candidates would be appointed at Band 6 and
would progress to a Band 7 post once they have completed Community
Practice Teacher/ Practice Educator qualification.
We are looking for
Community Practice Teacher who is passionate about nursing education & development
to join the Barnsley Neighbourhood Nursing Service
The
service is responsible for delivering nursing care which includes wound
management, chronic disease management, promotion of self-care, administration of IVs & terminal/palliative care
The role will involve holding a caseload within
one of our 6 neighbourhoods, managing & working alongside the team to
support the District Nurse Team Leader, ensuring training & education needs
are met & new starters/established staff are supported

Job responsibilities
- To be responsible for the education, facilitation, and management of Specialist Practitioner Qualification District Nursing students (SPQ DN), their learning environment, experience, assessment of practice and verification of competence taking into account their pastoral needs, ensuring the provision and management of a high-quality learning environment, including support for student supervisors who will provide practical experience during placement in their teams.
- To have specialist knowledge/experience and act as a role model to colleagues and students to ensure high standards of care, including supporting clinical innovation and excellence in evidence based clinical practice.
- To undertake caseload holder duties autonomously within the neighbourhood to ensure retention of clinical skills and identify patients form designated caseloads to facilitate the learning of District Nursing Community Specialist Practitioner students (as per District Nurse job description).
- To act as an identified educational lead for the integrated community nursing team, working in collaboration with the DN Clinical Lead, Professional Leads and Network Managers to identify training needs and ensure appropriate development to maintain a competent workforce.
- Devise, develop and deliver education and training for the community nursing workforce in partnership with the Clinical lead where appropriate to teams in the neighbourhoods including advising any service specific induction packages regarding updating DN clinical practice. To act as a preceptor to newly qualified or newly appointed staff.
Lead and promote the principles of multidisciplinary team working, brokering care across partnerships providing high quality, comprehensive and accessible community nursing service to housebound patients.
To be responsible for the assessment of the student proficiencies and sign off students meeting the standards of proficiency for SPQ DN practice.
To fulfil the Learning Environment Manager (LEM) role by overseeing and managing the learning environment for all allocated pre-registration students, working in partnership with Practice Learning Facilitators and local universities to ensure the learning environment meets the requirement of the course and relates theory to practice. Promoting an innovative and high-quality clinical experience and placement.
Work effectively in an integrated partnership way with primary care, secondary care, social care, the independent and voluntary sector.
