Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, Band 7, skin cancer nurse specialist nurse with an interest in minor surgery to join the skin cancer service at Mid Yorks.

This is a Band 7 CNS role working in the new surgical hub at Dewsbury Hospital, however cross site working may be necessary. The role will be divided between the skin cancer nursing team and minor surgery.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of skin cancer. Specialist knowledge will have been gained through previous clinical experience and the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate evidence of this.

You will also have excellent communication skills, experience of working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team.

The successful applicant will deliver surgical sessions to collect biopsies or remove suspicious lesions from patients on a skin cancer pathway. Experience is desirable however fully training will be given.

Main duties of the job

Participate in skin cancer wellbeing events.

Support the skin cancer CNSs ensuring the service is compliant with skin cancer annual peer review.

Participate in local skin MDT meetings and support with the regional skin MDT meetings

Undertakes nurse led follow up clinics for patients on a skin cancer pathway in accordance with current guidelines.

Develops effective communication skills with colleagues both internally and/or externally, in verbal, non-verbal and written communication methods, adapting to changing parameters as required; this includes thorough accurate documentation in patient records as required.

Undertakes Minor surgery for patients on a skin cancer pathway to include curettage and cautery, punch biopsy, narrow margin excisions (excluding the head and neck)

Lead and promote programmes of health education and health promotion relevant to service
