Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dental Nurse to join Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust (MYTT). Our highly experienced team provide Orthodontic ,Oral and Head and Neck care for patients across the Mid Yorkshire area.

We have full and part-time permanent, positions avalibale working across trust sites including community.

Main duties of the job

As part of the team, you will be responsible for providing assistance with clinical duties, chairside support for colleagues with a varied skill mix. The successful candidate will work alongside our Oral and Facial Specialities Team and Orthodontic Team. Carry out specific clinical and care tasks to a high standard and competency, under the direction of the Registered Care Professionals depending on setting.

Work within clearly defined accountability frameworks, standards and scope of practice of the general dental council. To provide the best possible care in collaboration with colleagues, patients, and their carers

To work independently within the surgery to maintain the surgery environment and ensure the smooth running of the clinic, reporting issues which develop, appropriately to the Dental Nurse Team, Senior Dental Nurse or Service Team Lead.

To prepare and maintain the dental surgery environment to the standards laid down by the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust and the General Dental Council.

To have an understanding of the processes used for decontamination in line with the trust policies and procedures.

To maintain all medical equipment, instruments and sundries used in the practice of dentistry to ensure the timely reporting of faulty equipment.

To inform patients of proposed dental procedures making sure that they fully understand the procedure to be undertaken. Provide pre and post-operative advice.

To be responsible for the control and rotation of stock in the designated clinical area, maintaining an adequate supply in accordance with the stock control policy.

Provide dental health education on a one to one basis as prescribed by a clinician.

To assist in any theatre lists within the acute Trust and complete any relevant required paperwork associated with these sessions.

To process, record and store correctly all radiographs to the standards laid down by the MYHT Radiation Safety Group, Ionising Radiation Regulations and FGDP (UK) Guidance and Standards. Ensure Quality Assurance in the service is demonstrated.

To enter data regarding patient demographic detail onto the appointment system.

To provide mentorship and clinical supervision and support to less experienced dental nurses when appropriate.

Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may become necessary for the smooth running of the service.

The post holder may be required to work within the Oral Facial department at other sites including community dental services to support unplanned sickness.
