Job summary

It is a great time to join the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Eye Service in this opportunity to be a virtual reporter of eye images.

This offers flexible working opportunities if you have the required skills and Part-time hours will be considered.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with previous diabetic screening experience. You would report local clinics assessing medical retina/diabetic retinopathy from patients who have undergone Optos imaging, with a view to assessing the images and identifying enhance pathology detection, providing quality assurance. You will be working largely unsupervised in a busy environment, so a cool head is essential! You will need a broad set of skills, including being confident with IT, but attention to detail, a methodical professional approach, flexibility and self-sufficiency are really important

The post holder will have in-depth knowledge of diabetic eye disease and other eye conditions with substantive years of image grading/reporting experience. They will have knowledge of the national quality standards in addition to the City and Guilds qualification, Health Screening Diploma (or equivalent). The post holder will be responsible for producing audits, highlighting areas for improvement, and implementing change.

Please note this role is currently under Agenda for Change evaluation and expected to be returned at band 6 which at this stage is unconfirmed.

Main duties of the job

The Imaging Reporter will work independently under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and Ophthalmology Patient Service Manager to complete the virtual reporting/grading assessment for Ophthalmic images which enhance pathology detection working in accordance with national and local protocols for patients who are having care delivered within the hospital.

The post holder will perform high level image reporting and provide quality assurance. The post holder will have in-depth knowledge of diabetic eye disease and other eye conditions with substantive years of image grading/reporting experience.

Job responsibilities

Responsible for reporting images for patients, working in partnership with Clinical Specialists and the Ophthalmology Patient Service Manager to ensure the delivery of high standards of patient care.

Perform higher level grading/reporting which is Quality Assured by the Clinical Specialists.

Reporting images require intense concentration for the duration of the session to sit for long periods at a VDU.

Reporting images requires the grader to work in a darkened room for the duration of the session, the post holder will need to be able to manipulate images with precision and speed and be able to report pathology to identify sight threatening eye disease and to make appropriate referrals for treatment or further investigations.

Act as a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available, and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients

Take the lead when required to develop and influence the development of practice in the clinical area through the business planning process / service development and in conjunction with Managers and Clinical Lead.

To collect data for both clinical and management purposes.

Support and facilitate research ensure evidence-based practice in the programme.
