Health Care Assistant, Maxillofacial Department
The Maxillofacial department are looking for a caring, compassionate, enthusiastic and self-motivated Health care Assistant to help us to provide high quality care and excellent patient experience.
We are a rapidly expanding service which currently works across all three hospital sites, Pinderfields, Dewsbury and Pontefract.
Our service incudes skin, Head & Neck cancer services, facial trauma, deformity, dental alveolar surgery, facial pain, and Orthodontics.
Main duties of the job
The individual must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure to facilitate the smooth flow of out-patient clinics. These duties will include chaperoning of clinicians, supporting junior members of the team, and helping on nurse led clinics.
Admin duties to include the preparation of Theatre lists, ordering of patient leaflets and supporting the service with completion of weekly/monthly audits.
Liaising with the Head and Neck /skin Macmillan team in supporting patients through their oncology treatment.

Job responsibilities
To facilitate the smooth flow of clinic, by liaising with clinicians, co-ordinating and supporting the junior Doctors.
Assist with the safe moving, handling and mobilisation of patients.
Involve patients and carers/relatives in delivery of patient care.
Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers/family.
Preserve clients privacy and dignity at all times.
Following appropriate training and education, supervision and completion of competencies. Monitor patients vital signs, and the monitoring of blood glucose levels.
Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care to be evaluated and records maintained.
Work collaboratively with others in the ward to ensure that patients needs are met.
Provide escorts for patients and undertake transfer of patients as directed.
Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
Maintain health, safety, security and report any concerns regarding patient care.
Report any incidents, complaints or accidents.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Attend and participate in team and unit meetings.
Participate in general cleanliness and tidiness of ward environment. To ensure the stocking up of dressings/clinical trollies and highlighting when stock levels are low.
Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
Attend mandatory in-service training programmes including moving and handling, fire etc.
Maintain up to date skills and knowledge.
Act as patient advocate at all times. Ensure the privacy and dignity of each patient.
Clarify patients comprehension of consultation and refer to qualified staff if required. Providing patient information leaflets where necessary.
Be present or deal with frequent exposure to emotional/distressing events, e.g. breaking of bad news. Liaise with the head and head neck Macmillan/skin CNS where necessary.
Assisting with personal care of patients in relation to toileting and moving and handling.
Maintain a professional working relationship will all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will maintain the confidentiality of Trust and patient information unless authorised for specific purposes. Report any concerns about the use of such information to the Nurse in charge.
Report to Centre Manager/Nurse in charge all untoward occurrences, comments and complaints from patients and visitors.
Ensure daily set up is completed with daily flushing of waterlines, ensure all clinical areas are ready for use with appropriate equipment. To assist the registered Dental Nurse with completion of all daily safety checks.
To liaise with the waiting list co-ordinators when booking patients on a 2ww pathway or trauma theatre.
Responsible for decontamination of materials and equipment that has been exposed to blood and bodily fluids, for example decontamination of Nasendoscope medical device using tristal trio wipes system.
Prepping of theatre lists with appropriate paperwork. Ordering of patients leaflets and consent forms.
