Job summary
As part of a small team the post
holder will provide a comprehensive maintenance service to Mechanical Services,
Plant and Non-Medical Equipment in Health Care Properties, ensuring a safe and
pleasant patient care environment.
To provide technical assistance
on mechanical issues to Electrical Craftsmen and Maintenance Assistants and to
clients as and when required.
Main duties of the job
To carry out a
range of repairs, planned maintenance and installation works on mechanical
services, plant and non medical equipment.
To diagnose and
repair mechanical faults on engineering installations, plant and non medical
equipment.
To undertake
training and development to increase his/her core trade knowledge and
understand the basics of Electrical engineering / other trades.

Job description
Job responsibilities
-
To carry out a range of repairs, planned maintenance and installation
works on mechanical services, plant and non medical equipment.

To diagnose and repair mechanical faults on engineering installations,
plant and non medical equipment.

To undertake training and development to increase his/her core trade
knowledge and understand the basics of Electrical engineering / other trades.
- Carry out all
repair and planned maintenance requests as assigned by the Maintenance
Supervisor.
- Carry out and
complete all work to a high standard and to the satisfaction of both the client
and your Maintenance Supervisor ensuring all appropriate safety requirements
are met.
- Comply with
Safe Systems of Work, operated by the Estates Department, together with all relevant
Statutory Regulations such as Health & Safety, COSHH, HTMs and other
guidance documents, etc.
- To complete
appropriate work repair docket reports, task reports and service sheets wholly
and accurately, in compliance with the departments ISO 9001.2000 Quality
Management System.
- Communicate
effectively with clients/visitors to ensure all work is completed to their
satisfaction.
- Organise and
instruct staff of lower grades when under your control.
- Use relevant
tools/specialist tools and calibrated equipment, PPE and risk assessments on
each task to ensure minimal H&S risk to self, staff and public.
- Diagnose and
repair faults in mechanical plant and equipment, have an understanding of mechanical
engineering services and plumbing installations, to deal with new situations as
they arise and communicate learning to others.
- Within the core
skill set design, manufacture, assemble, erect and install new works and
certify as required.
- Perform a basic
range of work of other crafts, with appropriate training.
- Understand the
inter-relationship between the various maintenance crafts and other groups.
- Carry out all
duties of lower grade estates staff within the Trust, as requested.
- Normal duties
will include tasks such as repairing pumps, boilers, catering equipment, bedpan
machines and general mechanical work, together with a wide variety of planned
preventative maintenance.
- Requisition
materials, obtain costs, etc. in compliance with the departments procurement
procedures and the Trusts Standing Financial Instructions.
- Utilise
knowledge, training and experience to enable basic risk assessments to be
carried out prior to any work being undertaken.
- Work frequently
in abnormal conditions and be prepared to carry out arduous tasks.
- To carry a
pager as required to enable contact via the Maintenance Supervisor for
urgent/emergency work repairs.
- Project a good
image of the department by good conduct and demeanour.
