Job summary
We are looking for a Ward Manager to join our nursing team on a permanent basis within the Division of Medicine for our Medical Step Down ward on Gate 23.
This is a full-time position overseeing a 11 bedded unit, delivering high standards of care to patients with all medical conditions. You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team providing holistic care to patients. There is an emphasis on discharge planning and patient education to ensure patients are safely discharged to their place of residence.
This is an idea opportunity for a motivated nursing leader with a high level of clinical competence. You will lead and execute delivery of excellent clinical standard, driving a culture of patient safety, clinical effectiveness and continuous improvement. You must be a positive role model that is able to lead by example. Communication skills must be excellent with a strong commitment to ensure positive experience for patients, relatives and carers.
Main duties of the job
- In conjunction with senior management provide effective leadership, monitoring of professional and care standards, and effective use of resource at ward level.
- To have a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives and staff.
- Responsible in ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality patient care.
- Lead by example, acting as a positive role model to staff taking responsibility for own professional development.
- Actively contribute and support agreed developments within the business group with focus for supporting clinical effectiveness and innovative practice.
- Manage staffing roster, ensuring safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce.
- Manage the nursing team, conduct appraisals, performance and sickness management, recruitment and selection, and student supervision.
- Confidently escalate in a timely manner concerns about patient safety, quality and experience, offering solutions using evidence-based practice.
- Respond to complaints and concerns as they arise and take remedial actions as required.
- Contribute to a a culture that works in partnership with patient and their families.
- Foster a culture encouraging staff to challenge and report poor practice.
- A strong understanding of clinical governance, quality and risk in regards to patient safety.

- Develop a high level of clinical decision making, monitor and improve standards of care, working within their advanced scope of professional practice.
