Main duties of the job
The Domestic Assistant is responsible for
maintaining a clean and hygienic environment within the Trust, adhering to
established cleaning procedures and standards. Duties encompass various areas,
including clinical, sanitary, and administrative spaces.
Key
Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning:
Conduct thorough cleaning of floors, including sweeping, mopping, and
polishing as required.
Dusting: Perform damp dusting of surfaces and
furniture to remove dust and allergens.
Sanitary Areas: Clean
and disinfect toilets, bathrooms, and ward kitchens, ensuring a high level
of hygiene.
Equipment Cleaning: Clean
and maintain kitchen equipment, such as stoves, ovens, and refrigerators.
Beverage Service:
Assist in serving beverages to patients, staff, and visitors.
Curtain and Refuse Management:
Change cubicle curtains regularly and dispose of refuse appropriately,
ensuring proper segregation.

- Mopping: Regularly clean floors using appropriate cleaning solutions and techniques.
- Scrubbing: Remove stubborn stains or dirt using scrubbing tools and cleaning agents.
- Buffing: Polish floors to enhance shine and maintain a high-quality appearance.
- Shampooing: Deep clean carpets to remove dirt, stains, and allergens.
General Cleaning
- Vacuuming: Regularly vacuum carpets, rugs, and hard-to-reach areas.
- Damp Dusting: Clean fixtures, fittings, and surfaces to remove dust and allergens.
- Sanitary Areas: Clean and disinfect toilets, bathrooms, and other sanitary facilities.
- Ward Kitchens: Clean and sanitize ward kitchens and kitchen equipment.
Patient Services
- Meal Service: Assist with serving meals to patients, including beverages, and collect dirty crockery after meals.
- Dishwashing: Wash jugs, vases, and other items as needed.
Waste Management
- Disposal and Segregation: Properly dispose of and segregate refuse according to guidelines.
- Linen Removal: Transport dirty linen to the designated disposal room.
Infection Control
- Bed Making: Change beds and cubicle curtains in accordance with infection control procedures.
- Room Cleaning: Thoroughly clean rooms and bed areas following an outbreak of infection.
Additional Duties
- Bed Making (Residences): Make beds in residences as needed.
- Other Tasks: Perform other cleaning tasks as assigned, such as cleaning windows or blinds.
