Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the
Decontamination Services Department for an experienced Decontamination Services Technician at our Pinderfields Hospital site in Wakefield.
The duties of the Decontamination Services Technician are to be proficient in all aspects of the Sterile Services Production, which includes the cleaning, maintaining and sterilising of surgical equipment.
You should have previous experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices across a range of surgical instruments.
The successful candidate will hold TVQ Part 1 & Part 2 in Sterile Services
City & Guilds 2296 or NVQ3 Decontamination or CQF 3 - Decontamination
This is a full time position, working 37.5 hours per week.
Some shift work may be required.

Main duties of the job
The duties of the Decontamination Services Technician are to be proficient in all aspects of the Sterile Services Production, which includes the cleaning, maintaining and sterilizing of surgical equipment.
To
carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilisation
of reusable surgical instruments within the ISO13485 quality system. Ensuring all instrument sets are assembled in
accordance with the sets contents lists and sterilised to laid down
procedures. Tracking instruments through
the process using the departments computerised tracking and tracing system.

Work within a controlled environment to identify, decontaminate, inspect
and assemble equipment/instrumentation including:-
Surgical power tools examine, lubricate and test
Micro instruments examine under magnifier
General instruments, check for function and serviceability
Implants check and inspect for serviceability
Identify, check functionality and assemble trays and sets including:-
Ophthalmic sets
Orthopaedic sets
Minimally invasive
ENT sets
Plastic sets
General Surgical Sets
Telescopes and cables
Specialised complex and intricate instruments requiring dismantling and
intricate re-assembly to ensure they are fully functional, to be dealt with in
accordance with the training manual.
Reporting of accidents and dangerous occurrences to Supervisors/Team
Leaders in a timely manner.
To adhere strictly to working procedures, quality system ISO 13485 and
departmental policies.
Processing contaminated equipment, dealing with body fluids, bone, sharps
and heavy trays throughout the shift.
Taking equipment in priority order as determined by others for cleaning
and packing.
Inform supervisors of any untoward incidents, problems, concerns,
accidents and shortfalls.
Verbally inform supervisor of missing instruments and complete
information transfer sheet to document incident for investigation
Load and operate the departments sterilisers as laid down in the
departments procedures.
Assemble theatre tray orders and place in case carts for drivers to
deliver.
Receive ad-hoc phone calls from theatres for additional instrumentation,
pick and deliver these trays to theatre.
