Job summary

Here at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Photographer to join us for a fixed period. This vacancy is temporary, for a period of six months. Both full time and part time hours will be considered. We require someone who has excellent organisational and Interpersonal skills and who can continuously improve themselves and help others to do so within our department. The successful candidate must have a BSc in Medical Illustration or a relevant degree plus the IMI PEC or a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Illustration. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate Clinical photography, Studio and location-based photography.

The role is challenging and fast paced, requiring a candidate that can step into this role with confidence, professionalism and the ability to motivate themselves and others. We are looking for someone who can uphold our trust values & behaviours and play a crucial role in delivering an excellent service.

We are a three-site trust and as part of your role you may be required to work across all sites at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury, including the new Community Diagnostic Centre in central Wakefield. We offer a regular staff shuttle service between the main sites for staff convenience and ease.

Main duties of the job

Provide a high-quality cost effective clinical and non-clinical photographic service for patient record, research, teaching and publication to clinicians and other health care professionals.

Job responsibilities

Digitally capture accurate, clinical photographic images of patients in the studio, on the wards and operating theatres around the hospital on a daily basis.

Have the expertise to recognise medical conditions and surgical procedures and demonstrate the visual appearance for documentation.

Undertake appropriate photographic examinations as requested by clinicians, referring questionable requests to a senior medical photographer.

Respect patient dignity and cultural differences during photographic sessions.

Insert appropriate oral retractors and/or mirrors to facilitate dental, oral surgery and facial maxillary photography.

Produce photographic evidence for the police accompanied by written police statements.

Undertake medico-legal requests for solicitors.

Participate in the training of undergraduate medical photographers.

Digitally capture non-clinical images in the studio and on location.

Produce digital images from 35mm negatives/slides, books, x-rays and illustrations via scanners and cameras.

Discuss with service users their particular requirements and advise appropriately to ensure efficient use of resources and quality of service.

Share responsibilities of the departments administrative duties i.e., writing letters, filing, stock control, ordering consumables and making patient appointments in the absence of the medical photography coordinator.

Maintain the departments confidential patient records, ensuring the correct patient demographics are digitally tagged to each image.
