Job summary
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic Pre-Term Birth Midwife 0.6 WTE (12 month fixed term contract)to play a leading role in the development of care and management of women at increased risk of preterm birth. You will work closely with our Lead Consultant and maternity team to ensure high-quality, safe midwifery care during the antenatal and postnatal period.
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust supports approximately 5,400 births per year, serving the populations of Wakefield district and North Kirklees. We provide antenatal clinics across three hospital sites and offer various birthing options, including:
- Home birth
- Freestanding birth centre at Dewsbury District Hospital
- Alongside birth centre and consultant-led delivery suite in Wakefield

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- The successful applicant will have specialist knowledge and skills to support women at increased risk of preterm birth throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care continuum.
- They will work autonomously within professional guidelines to deliver holistic, individualised care.
- Demonstrate strong clinical management and leadership skills which support the Midwifery, MDT and maternity service as a whole
- You will lead and embed the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) Perinatal Optimisation Pathway to help improve preterm outcomes. You will develop and monitor evidence-based practice ensuring a robust professional approach to service development
- You will act as an expert and a role model in the field of preterm birth and provide clinical and professional leadership within the Maternity service. This role will have key specialist clinical, training, practice development and strategic responsibilities.
