Job summary
We are pleased to announce that we will be enrolling one successful
candidate on the Sheffield Hallam University Apprenticeship Sonographer Degree
Program, due to commence in March 2025. This is a rare and exciting training
opportunity to become a degree level sonographer.
Successful candidates (subject to qualifications) will be enrolled on to
the degree apprenticeship and expected to complete; work-based, online,
self-directed learning as outlined in the university prospectus. Occasional
attendance at SHU will be required. Apprenticeship sonographers will be
supported in the departments at MYTT by our practice educators and sonography
team.
Applicants
must be eligible and willing to undertake a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship and
hold Certificates or
Diplomas of Higher Education (Cert HE; Dip HE),Foundation Degrees (FD) or
equivalent and Level 3 qualifications or equivalent to meet HEI entry
requirements SHU requirements. Relevant healthcare experience will also be
taken into account.
There
is an eligibility criteria for government funded apprenticeships which requires
the applicant to be aged 18+, be a resident in the UK/EU for the last three
years. Applicants cannot have achieved a qualification at level 6 or
abovein the same
pathwayas this will exempt them from being able to
undertake the apprenticeship.

Main duties of the job
**INTERNAL ONLY ONLY OPEN TO STAFF AT MID YORKSHIRE TEACHING NHS TRUST**
Responsible for producing high quality ultrasound images.
To provide high quality independent written reports in accordance with
departmental protocols.
To
perform a comprehensive range of ultrasound procedures with supervision, both
within the department and externally, e.g. Wards, intensive care etc. when
required.
To
manipulate equipment and interpret ultrasound images, producing clinical
reports under the supervision of an Advanced Practitioner.
To
contribute towards the efficient deployment of resources, enabling the patient
to receive a safe, accurate and timely examination.
The
post holder will be working towards this job description whilst undertaking a
training scheme over 36 months, under supervision, to achieve a BSc Integrated
Sonography Apprenticeship Degree.

Be
able to plan and successfully undertake the academic components of the
Apprentice Sonographer course whilst continuing to achieve clinical
competencies.
To
plan and undertake continued studies both in the workplace and at home.
To
work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient imaging service
at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust
Attend
mandatory block weeks for the Sonographer Apprenticeship programme at the
Sheffield Hallam University (SHU).
Make
a commitment to study both within working hours and at home during the duration
of the apprenticeship course.
Apprentices
will be workplace based for four days (30 hours) per week and 1 day (7.5 hours)
will be protected study time either locally or at the associated Higher
Education Institution (HEI). Attendance of training at the associated HEI is
considered to be essential and annual leave must be arranged outside these
sessions.
Attend
virtual tutorials and webinars and complete all e-learning as instructed by
SHU.
Attend
tutorials, teaching and CPD events arranged by the Diagnostic Imaging
Department as instructed by the Advanced Practitioner
To
perform a range of ultrasound scans, as detailed within the apprenticeship
programme, within the Radiology department under the supervision of a qualified
sonographer at all times.
To
immediately report any fault/errors following departmental processes and
highlight to the supervising sonographer/team leader.
To
communicate effectively with patients and carers of varying abilities and
understanding; explaining procedures in order to gain co-operation.
To
re-assure and encourage patients and carers.
To
liaise with multidisciplinary teams regarding examination needs and results.
To
build and maintain good relationships within the team and other departments and
disciplines; working together to develop service improvements.
To
input, store and provide patient information on the directorate Radiology
Information System maintaining the integrity and quality of the data consistent
with legislation, policies and procedures.
Prioritise
own tasks under the appropriate delegation of the registered practitioner.
To

Support
