Job summary
Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust Radiology departments have
recognised and implemented the new roles needed to deliver the services of the
future and are looking for a suitable candidate with a patient/NHS background
to work as a Healthcare Support Worker in the General X-ray department at
Pinderfields hospital.
HealthcareSupport Workers undertake a variety of
roles which include administrative and patient care duties working closely and
assisting Radiographers in the clinical setting. A good standard of secondary
education and basic computer skills are essential.
Please note we have the following hours available:
- Part time hours (20 hours per week): Sunday 8pm-8am and Monday 10pm-8am.
- Full time hours (37.5 hours per week): include a mix of 9-5pm,
8.30-5pm and 8.30-8pm Monday to Friday.
There is an expectation to work bank
holidays as the department works 24hrs 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job
- To undertake patient care duties to enable a patient focused service
- To work clinically in X-ray, DXA and Fluoroscopy rooms with the aim of supporting radiographers and radiologists
- To help ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained in the department
- To perform some administrative duties to support the department in running efficiently

In relation to patient care the post holder will ensure that every effort is made to maintain patient safety and wellbeing.
The post holder will ensure that the environment and equipment is fit for purpose to reduce the incidence of hospital acquired infection. E.g. cleaning rooms after use, wiping equipment, changing linen.
The post holder will work as part of a team to ensure the department is appropriately stocked, inc. stock taking, ordering, and storing of stock.
The post holder will adhere to moving and handling policies to ensure that patients come to no harm.
The post holder will ensure that patients are appropriately dressed for their procedure and assist the patient in dressing and undressing as required.
The post holder will help and assist the radiographer to position the patient as appropriate and under the direction of the radiographer.
The post holder will undertake general observation of patients and report any concerns to the radiographers or medical staff.
The post holder will adhere to control of infection policies in support of patients with known infection.
The post holder may be asked to support reception if required. They will ensure that patients are greeted and directed to the appropriate waiting areas. Reception duties involve dealing with telephone enquires to standards set by the directorate.
The post holder will liaise with wards and departments to arrange timely transfer of in patients to the radiology department.
The post holder will deal with enquiries efficiently and ask for advice if unsure how to proceed.
The post holder will ensure that patient documentation is administered efficiently using the Radiology Information System and the PAS system in order that accurate waiting list and activity information can be generated.
The post holder will be conversant in email and Microsoft office in order that written communication is undertaken in a timely manner.
