A vacancy has arisen within our innovative paediatric
service for a highly motivated, full-time, permanent children's speech &
language therapist as part of our dynamic and supportive speech and language therapy team.
This role requires a flexible and innovative Speech
& Language Therapist to work within a dedicated Children's Speech and language therapy team and is
committed to supporting children and families with communication difficulties.
The Children's SLT team provides assessment, treatment and advice to children and young people aged 0-19. We work in partnership with families. other health professionals and colleagues in education to maintain a holistic approach for children in the Wakefield district.

Main duties of the job
You will be required to work within clinic settings, within mainstream schools and support with initial assessment clinics, offering assessment and therapy of children with speech, language and communication needs.
You will develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care and ensure effective communication to share and promote care for children and families.
You will promote high quality client-centred care ensuring clients are treated with dignity, equality and respect

To be responsible
for assessment and intervention in a clinic setting, working from a centralised
waiting list.
To be
responsible for, and manage, at least one school-contract based caseload as the
service requires.
To work
clinically and be able to care for children presenting with a wide range of
conditions and treatment requirements, initiating and promoting excellence in
clinical practice acting as a role model.
To support
initial assessment clinics as required.
To support
the wider team during times of sickness as directed by team lead.
To comply with the RCSLT Newly Qualified
Practitioner competencies
Prioritise existing workload in the context of
the NQP framework and in response to demand.
To maintain a culture which recognises, and works
in partnership with, clients and their carers, involving them in all decisions
relating to their care delivery.
To work with the Local Authority, private, third
sector and voluntary services, ensuring effective timely communication between
all agencies.
To be able to coordinate assessments of clients
referred and accept/decline where appropriate giving reasons why to referring
areas.
To contribute to the dissemination of information
between team members, using effective communication channels.
To liaise effectively with colleagues, other
agencies, clients and their carers to ensure an efficient system of

recipients.
Participate in clinical supervision ensuring that
practice is maintained at high levels and is evaluated utilising appropriate

work within a more specialist area of SLCN under the guidance & supervision
of more senior members of staff as part of career development (as opportunities

Hospital Children Centres or children attending resourced provision.
Maintain and update skills and knowledge through
life-long learning, especially within the sphere of childrens services.
To demonstrate and maintain own knowledge and
awareness of recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding the needs
of vulnerable children. Including participation in regular safeguarding
supervision at least once every 12 weeks, in line with trust policy. To attend
multi-agency safeguarding meetings as required.
To undertake all mandatory / essential training
as required by the Trust.
Demonstrate
a proactive approach to team working and a commitment to team development by
participating in & contributing to any working group as directed by the
service lead. To attend & participate in regular team meetings.
To maintain standards in ongoing health
information, both electronic and paper based, ensuring safe keeping and
