Job summary
We are looking to expand our Phlebotomy service within MYTT.
The role will involve working across all 3 sites (Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury). The post will require some weekend and bank holiday working on a rota system.
We provide a phlebotomy service to hospital wards, outpatients, housebound patients and the new Clinical Diagnostic Centre in Wakefield.
We are looking for applicants with phlebotomy experience but training will be provided to candidates with the right qualities to join our team.
Main duties of the job
To collect blood samples from patients in accordance to the Trust's venepuncture and infection control policies and procedures. This will include collecting samples from within the hospital, community clinics and in patient homes.
The post holders must be polite, caring and understanding when dealing with patients and staff members.

Job responsibilities
To collect blood samples by both venepuncture
and capillary methods where appropriate, for laboratory testing. Patients will
include both inpatients and outpatients from the Trust and from General Practice
and includes babies and young children where appropriate.
To ensure that samples are placed in appropriate
specimen containers as set out in instructions, and to carry out clear and
accurate labelling of these samples.
To ensure that all samples are of acceptable
quality, taken from an appropriate vein, and collected in sufficient
quantity.
To ensure that all samples are delivered
promptly to the specimen collection point or to Pathology Specimen Reception as
appropriate.
To inform Phlebotomist Supervisor(s) of any
operational problems that are encountered.
To work to the Trust standards concerning the
control of hospital acquired infections and to ensure infection risks to
patients is minimised.
To follow standard operating procedures, health
and safety policies and procedures and Trust policies where applicable.
To maintain a clean and tidy environment whilst
collecting blood samples on wards or in surgeries.
To maintain blood collecting trays/trolleys, and
work surfaces in the Blood Collecting Room in a clean and tidy condition.
To collect samples from patients for paternity
testing/DNA analysis as appropriate (Site dependent).
