Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and clinically experienced Senior
Nurse who can demonstrate sound clinical skills and leadership qualities to
effectively manage and lead Mid Yorkshire's Neonatal Service.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the busiest level two within the
region. The Neonatal Unit at Pinderfields is a level 2 Local Neonatal Unit. On
the neonatal unit, we have 22 cots, consisting of 3 Intensive Care cots, 4 High
Dependency Cots and 15 Special Care cots. We have a 5 cot Transitional Care
Unit. We also have two neonatal flats.
There is a seven-day service provided by the Neonatal Outreach team. We
also have dedicated support from clinical education to support people and
service development.
The applicant will work closely together with matron, head of clinical
services, patient safety teams and governance teams to ensure care provided is
of high standard.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and
co-ordinating the clinical, managerial, and educational requirements of the
unit ensuring adequate systems are in place to support continuity over a 24
hour/ 7day period.
They will provide support to all staff and will be required to work in
partnership with all multi-disciplinary teams and will be responsible for
providing line management, leadership and professional development for all
members of staff who work within the Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care Unit.

sister/charge nurse will actively participate in overseeing the management of
the clinical area. They will act as
mentor, supervisor, and line manager to senior and junior clinical staff. The senior sister/charge nurse is primarily
responsible for the clinical management of the unit and is integrated
governance.
To maintain personal clinical skills and in-depth specialist neonatal
nursing knowledge. To act as a resource and a role model of professional
competence in an area where extensive nursing intervention and use of
technology is required.
Promote/work within
the NMC statutory framework. i.e. code of practice, Scope of professional
practice, and standards for Administration of medicines, and Standards for
Record Keeping.
Implement change by
participating/leading in the development of ward/department protocols, policies,
guidelines, and care pathways with other members of the MDT. To ensure that
these are communicated with staff.
Contribute to the learning
environment, education and training strategies within the Neonatal unit and
Transitional care.
Disseminate best
practice throughout the department and directorate.
Act as a clinical
expert within the Neonatal speciality whilst delivering high levels of direct
care to patients.
Support the
promotion of joint working with other professionals, agencies, clinical
services, and patient/carers.
Managers Nursing
staff allocated to the Unit during the span of duty and is responsible for
their efficient deployment, and to supervise the delivery of quality nursing
care.
To act as a change
agent utilising the principles of evidence-based practice promoting family
centred care.
To recognise
deteriorations in clinical conditions and initiate a rapid and appropriate
response.
