Job summary

There is a Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner vacancy in Biochemistry working across Dewsbury & District Hospital and Pinderfields Hospital, at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy Biochemistry department, processing patient samples and performing a broad range of scientific tasks as required by the biomedical scientist staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team of associate practitioners working at Dewsbury & District Hospital and Pinderfields hospital. They are responsible for:

  • The maintenance of the Tosoh G11 instrument used in HbA1c analysis.
  • The maintenance of the Roche C501 & e411 instruments at Dewsbury.
  • Supporting the biomedical scientists in the maintenance of the Roche Cobas 8000 high throughput analysers at Pinderfields.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and troubleshooting of the pre- and post-analytical GLP automated track system.
  • Processing patient samples to meet department turnaround targets
  • Performing other analysis & tasks as required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide a high quality and timely service.

To carry out a range of routine technical tasks using analytical skills The range of tasks will be dependent on the area in which they are working.

To work under supervision as required by managers, either as part of the out of hour's service provision or during the normal working day.

To follow quality control procedures as set out in the departmental instructions.

To work accurately and precisely in a conscientious, disciplined, and flexible way.

To maintain high technical standards and ensure that such areas in which they work are kept clean and tidy.

To carry out routine and emergency maintenance and calibration of equipment both inside and outside the department as appropriate and to identify problems associated with equipment used to your managers.

To conduct audit in line with UKAS standards and to participate in other internal and external audit activity as required.

Communication

To communicate with colleagues within the department on a range of complicated subjects.

To communicate with both medical and scientific staff within the department and with medical and nursing staff on wards and on technical issues.

To communicate with patients often with a barrier to communication on a range of topics related to sample collection.

I.T.

To carry out data input of patient details, and to input test results onto patient files on the Laboratory Information System.

To carry out basic computer/data processing using statistical and word processing packages.

Training

To undertake such personal training as is deemed necessary to fulfil all working obligations and to attend mandatory training such as Fire Awareness training as is required by the Laboratory manager.

Other

To attend and participate in departmental meetings and to comment and contribute to the development of new policies and procedures.

To maintain the confidentiality of Trust and patient information, and use such information only as authorised for specific purposes. Report any concerns about the use of such information to your senior manager.

To work, if required, on the out of hours service.
