This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to move forward into a professional HR practitioner role; balancing work with studying for a CIPD qualification.
The hours for this role are 35.5 per week; this will include study time.
The role is based on site however, following a period of settling in, one day a week working from home can be accommodated.
The job description details the full requirements of the HR Advisor role however to apply you will need to demonstrate in your application that you have the following qualifications & experience to be shortlisted:
- Level 3 CIPD qualification & experience of working in a HR team; OR
- Experience of providing operational HR support including the provision of first line HR advice & case management (sickness, conduct, grievance & performance management support).
The duration of the apprenticeship is typically 22 months plus the end point assessment.
The pay for the apprenticeship is set by the NHS Terms and Conditions (annexe 21) as follows:
- Year 1: £24,176 (which is 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate & pro rata to 35.5 hours per week).
- Year 2: £25,902 (which is 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate & pro rata to 35.5 hours per week).
If applying from within the Trust the successful candidate will continue on their current pay scale unless the above is more favourable (annexe 30).
On successful completion of the apprenticeship the pay will be £28,371 (band 5 entry point pro rata to 35.5 hrs).
Main duties of the job
Our HR Advisors are a key part of the team supporting managers & colleagues across the Trust on a range of employee relations matters including: sickness, conduct, grievance, and performance management.
The HR team provides a compassionate HR service through advice & support, coaching & training, & case work management.
The post holder will be an advocate for ensuring policies, legislation, & best practice are followed as well as being a champion for a just & learning culture.
At the end of the 2 year apprenticeship programme the successful candidate will have been supported in undertaking the Level 5 CIPD qualification through to completion whilst working in role.

Job responsibilities
1. To
support and advise managers on employee relations casework as delegated by the Deputy
HR Business Partner, ensuring cases are progressed in an efficient and timely
manner in line with workforce KPIs.
2.
Provide efficient and effective employee
relations casework management processes including disciplinary, grievance,
bullying and harassment, performance and attendance management. Supporting
managers as an investigatory team, taking part in meetings, formal hearings and
producing notes, formal minutes and reports. Ensuring this is compliant with
law, policy and good practice.
3.
Lead
on the initial fact-finding process for HR matters (including disciplinary,
grievance and harassment) which are referred into the HR service for advice and
support.
4.
Advise and coach
managers/employees on the benefits of informal/early resolution of HR issues in
order to avoid unnecessary escalation of matters to formal processes.
5.
Provide a timely
response to all enquiries whether received by letter, email or telephone and
deal with all enquiries sensitively, effectively and where necessary escalate
to the appropriate person to rectify any issues/queries accordingly.
6. To
assist in the planning and implementation of Human Resources initiatives within
the Trust.
7. To
oversee the HR Service inbox and telephone queries received relating to
employee relations matters, ensuring they are acknowledged in line with key
performance indicators and progressed without delay.
8. To
ensure that any documentation required for reports is completed within the
defined timescales.
9. Linking
in with the Senior HR Advisors and Deputy HR Business Partner, delivering
people management training to up skill managers, and spotting areas for
development based on queries received by the HR service.
10. To
maintain accurate records of all employment related cases according to Trust
policies and procedures, using the Trust ESR IT system and updating department
records. To maintain effective and efficient office systems and to make
recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
11. To
support Human Resources Service at internal hearings and appeals.
12. Planning
and coordinating internal Human Resources meetings/hearings and taking minutes
as requested.
13. To
attend interview panels as required and assist with selection for posts.
14. To
develop and maintain effective relationships with local and regional staff
side/Union representatives in order to foster good Partnership working.
