Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated GIM accredited Consultant
Rheumatologist to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team at the
Pinderfields and Dewsbury Hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity for a
highly skilled clinician to contribute specialist expertise to our expanding
rheumatology services whilst providing expert care in general medicine.
Main duties of the job
Conduct
outpatient rheumatology clinics, diagnosing and managing conditions such as
rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
Provide
on-call and consultant-present care across our sites, with a primary focus on Gate
44 (GIM ward) attending ward rounds 2 days a week.
Provide
expert care in general medicine and rheumatology, managing both acute and
chronic conditions.
Daytime
Duties: part of the scheduled weekly timetable (below) with two consultants
providing concurrent ward rounds. Sub-specialty support is provided from
respiratory, cardiology, diabetes, gastroenterology, acute oncology and
neurology teams.
Support
for medical subspecialties is provided by separate on-call teams including
Cardiology (Coronary Care and Acute Cardiology) a separate GI bleed Rota
(provided by Gastroenterology) and Critical Care (level 2 and 3 care facilities
shared anesthesia and medical consultant care).
Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours
on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time
regulations and safe working
On call evening and weekend work would be required dependent
on the skills of the suitable applicant

provide high-quality care in both rheumatology and general medicine,
contributing to inpatient and outpatient services, medical education, and
service development.
Duties will be based primarily on our Wakefield
(Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering
care to patients on all our sites.
The main duties of the post will include

include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles
Specialist skills as part of the GIM curriculum will also be
supported.
All
consultants at the trust are provided with secretarial support and an
adequately equipped office, which includes IT facilities.
Time
off in lieu is currently supported at the trust for Consultants who have worked
a weekend or bank holiday on-call shift.
This is subject to prior agreement with the divisional management team.
