We are
seeking to appoint a consultant microbiologist to support the Clinical Lead
Consultant Microbiologist, 2other Consultant Microbiologists and a
Consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacist.
Our
Microbiology department provides a bacteriology, serology and mycology service
to the Trust and, from time to time, to our local CCGs (Wakefield and North
Kirklees, who commission on behalf of with 400 GPs) as well as infection
control support to the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
(mental health).
The
Microbiology laboratory has full accreditation with UKAS ISO (achieved
2017). The laboratory undertakes internal audits and quality assurance,
and participates in all relevant NEQAS schemes. The laboratory is accredited
for BMS training.
We are part
of the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts and are working together
along with NHSI on building future sustainable and aligned services across West
Yorkshire and Harrogate including clinical microbiology. We work closely with
infection control and pharmacy especially our experience antimicrobial pharmacy
team.
This role is
an ideal opportunity for personal development within a team, building and
developing first rate microbiology services for our patients in new and
innovative ways.
Main duties of the job
The main
duties of the post will include, as part of their duties:
Providing a comprehensive microbiology
service including
o Consultation
and advisory service to colleagues in the Trust and, from time-to-time, primary
care and our local mental health trust (included in scheduled PAs).
o Support
to regular clinical meetings and to postgraduate activities.
o Infection
prevention and control advice cover when the infection control lead is away
o Sharing
with the other three consultant microbiologists the task of providing
integrated clinical microbiology services to Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust
(MYTT).
o Participation
in the weekly timetable of fixed commitments and the consultant work programme
(TCS and Circular HC90/16)
o Liaison
and emergency work, continuing clinical responsibility, teaching, research,
audit, interdisciplinary meeting, and CPD, through flexible, professional use
of unscheduled time.
o On-call duties currently shared on a 1 in
4 basis and assessed as 1PA (average).
Most on-call activity is remotely-delivered
via telephone or using remote IT-access / electronic notes archive; rarely,
on-site attendance is required to support significant incidents or complex
cases.
o Administrative duties, for which
appropriate office space, with networked computer access, and secretarial
support is provided (included in allocated time).
