Instructor MSK out-patients- Band 3
A fantastic opportunity for a Band 3 Technical Instructor to
join the MSK out-patient Physiotherapy service at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust.
The post holder will work with a team of dedicated therapists, Supporting Physiotherapy
activities, including rehabilitation classes, individual treatment sessions, administration
and cleaning duties.
The team works across all 3 sites of Mid Yorkshire. The post
will predominately be based at Dewsbury District Hospital within the Gym. Working
across other sites may be required to help support cover for the wider team.
This role includes opportunities to work with a wide range of trauma patients, post
elective surgery patients and GP and consultant referrals. Providing you with
varied workload in a experienced specialist team.
We will provide training, support and structured supervision
from advanced and specialist therapists to help you continue to develop your knowledge and skills. You will also be
expected to be approachable and provide support to team members including
students and other technical instructors.

Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist the
post holder will be expected to:
1. Provide support and assistance to registered
physiotherapy staff in the assessment and treatment of patients in the gym and
out-patient department with episodes of decreased function.
2. Undertake assessments, interventions and rehabilitation
programmes set by the Therapists.
3. Use technical skills to assist in the provision of a
flexible, patient centred, therapeutic programme for patients with a variety of
physical, psychological and social needs.
4. Assist with safety checking of equipment prior to use or
issue.
5. Assist with efficient day to day running of the gymnasium
/ out-patient department by assisting qualified staff and carrying out
administrative tasks.

Clinical duties/patient contact
1. Under

work, including monitoring of progress and identifying and reporting concerns
to the therapist.

independently take a class under the close supervision of the senior therapist
on the day.
4. See
patients on an individual basis to carry out exercise programmes as directed by
the therapist.
5. Assist
in the implementation, evaluation and modification of therapy and team
interventions including patients with complex problems.
6. Work
effectively as a member of the therapy team to undertake delegated tasks to
contribute to the safe and smooth running of the service.
7. Assess
patients for the provision of walking aids and undertake the adjustment and
alteration in line with appropriate health and safety guidelines and protocols.
8. Assess
patients ability on stairs and with walking aids ensuring suitability for their
needs and teach correct walking pattern.
9. Be
responsible for planning own day to day allocated workload, clinical and
non-clinical.
Hydrotherapy
1. To
be responsible for the daily testing of the hydrotherapy pool in accordance
with the Pool Policy, raising any abnormalities with the lead Physiotherapist
and Engie Estates staff.
2. Assist
the lead Physiotherapist in managing any pool issues (i.e. closure) in relation
to informing pool users. Also, to
continue to monitor its status and implement re-opening in conjunction with
Estates and the lead Physiotherapist.
3. Assist
therapists during hydrotherapy sessions, either on the poolside or in the pool,
including using manual techniques as directed.
4.
Maintain patient safety in the hydrotherapy
area, including supervising entry and exit of patients from the pool.
Communication
1. Use
a range of verbal, non-verbal and active listening skills to establish a
professional rapport with patients and encourage their interest and
participation in the therapy intervention by communicating with them in a way
that reflects their views, autonomy and culture.
2. Adapt
own verbal and non-verbal communication in order to work with service users in
sensitive situations.

individual interaction where there may be difficulties with understanding for
