We are recruiting to our popular and varied band 5 Occupational Therapy Rotation. We welcome applications from students finishing courses in May/ June 2024. Start dates summer 2024.
If you are qualifying summer 2024 then this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop skills and knowledge, in a supportive environment. The rotation gives experience of work in the following clinical specialities, Rotations will cover our 3 hospital sites (Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury) and community settings.
- Trauma / Orthopaedics / Amputees
- Elderly complex care
- Respiratory
- Surgery
- Intermediate care MY Therapy Team
- Spinal injuries
- A & E / acute assessment and frailty
- Hand Therapy
- Neurology
- Burns
- Children's Therapy
Rotations are 6 monthly, rotational members of staff submit choices prior to each rotation.
The services cover 7 days, a flexible approach is required to meet the challenges in each clinical speciality where you would be assigned to an experienced clinical practitioner for regular supervision and support as well as working within experienced and well-established teams. We offer preceptorship support throughout your first year of practice.

Main duties of the job
To undertake Occupational Therapy assessments
for a designated caseload,
To understand and apply the Occupational Therapy
process in order to effectively self-manage a designated caseload within a
rotational area, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits,
enabling the patient in components of self-care, productivity and leisure.
To be responsible for the organisation,
implementation, and evaluation of assessments to facilitate safe
and timely discharge of individuals.
To develop skills and
knowledge through participation in the diverse rotational scheme, working within inpatients, outpatients and community settings.

- To be professionally and legally accountable for all
aspects of own practice including the management of individuals in your care.
- To understand and apply the Occupational Therapy
process in order to effectively self manage a designated caseload within a
rotational area, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits,
enabling the patient in components of self care, productivity and leisure.

the key concepts of biological, physical, social, psychological and clinical
sciences in relation to occupational performance relevant to the rotation
placement.

Occupational Therapy assessments and
techniques in areas of occupational performance (work, leisure, personal,
domestic, environment) and skill deficits.

To be able to use research, clinical reasoning
and problem solving skills including activity analysis to identify the
therapeutic benefit of client centered interventions and make professional
judgements and implement evidence based practice.

To be able to formulate and implement specific
and appropriate management plans with individuals including the setting of time
scales.

group interventions according to patient need.

To analyse and evaluate the Occupational Therapy

discussions, ward rounds, meetings regarding individual care programmes.

communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, carers, relatives, and
other professionals including the implementation of treatment interventions,
safe use of equipment and minor adaptations.

difficulties with understanding due to physical, cognitive, psychological or

Documentation- To be responsible for the written recording of
up to date, accurate information relating to the Occupational Therapy
intervention in line with applicable legislation, Trust, and College of
Occupational Therapy guidelines.

completed by support staff and if appropriate students.

appropriate departmental statistical records.

referrals received from other members of the multidisciplinary team and outside
