We have an exciting opportunity to join our compassionate and forward-thinking Adult Acute Speech & Language Therapy Team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. We are delighted to offer two Band 6 opportunities to join our compassionate and forward-thinking Adult Acute Speech & Language Therapy Team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

These posts are available as two part time posts, providing flexibility and a chance to work in a supportive team that values patient centre care, development and wellbeing.

This is a fantastic post for clinicians who enjoy variety, value teamwork, and want to continue developing specialist skills within a vibrant acute setting.

Working across the acute inpatient wards at Pinderfields and Dewsbury, you will deliver high-quality assessment and management for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. Your caseload will be varied and clinically stimulating, including:

Elderly care & dementia

Respiratory

Gastroenterology

Neurological conditions

ICU step-downs

Plus opportunities to work with the regional spinal injury and regional burns units

You will be part of an experienced team who work collaboratively across wards, providing responsive, patient-centred care that makes a real difference.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve working on the acute wards across MYTT to provide a high-quality service for our patients who have swallow and communication difficulties. Therefore effective caseload management skills, experience and knowledge in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with acquired neurological presentations are required.

The post holder will work flexibly as required to maintain a responsive, patient centred and evidence-based service for optimal patient outcomes.

You will support and work with the Service Lead, Team Lead and Clinical Leads for Adult Speech and Language Therapy to enable us to deliver a comprehensive service to adults with a range of disorders of communication and swallowing.

To liaise closely with colleagues in the acute and community settings to facilitate the smooth transfer of care, to contribute to schemes supporting early discharge from hospital and reducing unscheduled admissions to hospital.

To supervise, support and provide clinical education as required to less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, students, and assistants.

To lead relevant projects for the SLT service.

Excellent inter-personal, communication, motivational, emerging leadership and team working skills are important components of how we work, in addition to our clinical skills.
