We are looking for a motivated Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to work across the Wakefield and district community, delivering high quality care for adults with communication and swallowing needs.
You will work across a range of settings including patients homes, nursing and residential care, and outpatient clinics. You will manage a varied, clinically rewarding caseload, including stroke, brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, dementia, and respiratory presentations. Main duties of the job
The role will involve working in a community setting to provide a high-quality service for our patients who have swallow and communication difficulties. Therefore effective independent caseload management skills, experience and knowledge in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with stroke, brain injury, progressive neuro, dementia, and respiratory presentations etc. are required.
The post holder will work flexibly as required to maintain a responsive, patient centred and evidence-based service for optimal patient outcomes.
You will support and work with the Service Lead, Team Lead and Clinical Leads for Adult Speech and Language Therapy to enable us to deliver a comprehensive service to adults with a range of disorders of communication and swallowing.
You will be delivering training and education to patient, carers and third parties.
To liaise closely with colleagues in the acute and community settings to facilitate the smooth transfer of care, to contribute to schemes supporting early discharge from hospital and reducing unscheduled admissions to hospital.
To supervise, support and provide clinical education as required to less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, students, and assistants.
To lead relevant projects for the SLT service.
