Orthodontic Dental Technician

Job summary

The post holder will

  • Provide a comprehensive range of appliances in technical support to the Orthodontic clinicians.
  • Provide technical support to other specialties when required.
  • Provide appliance for sleep clinic

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain a high standard of technical expertise across a range of orthodontic appliances.
  • Manage own workload and prioritise accordingly.
  • Respond rapidly to clinical need and carry out unscheduled work promptly.

  • GDC Approved Qualification in Dental Technology (OND, BSc or equivalent)
  • Registered with the GDC as a Dental Technician

Experience

  • Evidence of continuing professional development in relation to this post
  • Experience of general dental laboratory procedures

Knowledge and Awareness

  • Understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Awareness of own limitations
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of a range of dental and orthodontic procedures e.g. tooth eruption, morphology and clinical charting, obstructive sleep apnea
  • Cross infection control
  • Academic and working scientific knowledge of dental and maxillofacial materials

Skills and Abilities

  • Highly developed physical skills and a high degree of precision and dexterity in construction of appliances
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; and listening skills
  • Ability to co-ordinate a variety of duties that run simultaneously
