Job summary

As a specialist speech and language therapist within the autism assessment team you will offer complex standardised and non-standardised assessment to assist with a diagnostic outcome for children where there are concerns in relation to possible autism. You will work with other members of the team to ensure that a multi-disciplinary assessment for autism is offered and work on site and in settings where indicated. Assessing therapists also take responsibility for feeding back the outcome of assessment to parents/carers or young people and outline the assessment process and recommendations using a neuro affirmative approach.

The postholder will also offer training to others both internally and externally on all aspects of assessment and communication relevant to the autism assessment pathway.The post holder will work within RCSLT guidelines and Mid Yorks Trust policy.

Main duties of the job

  • To offer specialist assessment for autism spectrum as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide detailed reports that support parents, carers, young people and educational professionals to understand the child or young person's strengths and needs.

  • To provide specialist reports that outline the assessment findings and diagnostic conclusions reached
  • To follow all processes that make up the Mid Yorks assessment for autism pathway
  • To consider safeguarding and action where concerns arise
  • To support internal and external training
  • To support students through supervision and learning opportunities
