Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist (Band 7) to provide day-to-day operational leadership of the Blood Transfusion laboratory at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. The post is 6 months fixed term to cover maternity leave.
The post holder will ensure the safe, effective and timely delivery of the service, maintaining MHRA and UKAS compliance, and supervising and supporting Biomedical Scientists and support staff.
This role will act as the operational lead for the laboratory, ensuring service continuity and acting as a senior point of escalation while other senior staff are released to deliver a programme of major service improvement and quality projects over the next six months.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, youll:
- Provide day-to-day operational leadership of the Blood Transfusion laboratory, ensuring safe, effective and timely service delivery.
- Act as the senior operational lead on shift, managing workload, staffing, escalation and service pressures.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with MHRA, UKAS/ISO 15189 and Trust policies and procedures.
- Supervise, support and develop Biomedical Scientists and support staff, including training and competency oversight.
- Maintain oversight of quality management activities, including incidents, investigations and audits.
- Ensure service continuity while other senior staff are released to deliver major service improvement and quality projects
