Associate Practitioner - Haematology

Job summary

We are seeking an Associate Practitioner to support the delivery of a high-quality, timely Haematology and Blood Transfusion service. Working under the supervision of senior Biomedical Scientists, you will undertake a broad range of scientific and technical duties in accordance with defined protocols and quality standards.

The role includes performing routine laboratory testing on a range of specimens, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, following quality control procedures, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and ISO accreditation requirements. You will contribute to stock management, equipment maintenance, service improvement activities and effective communication with laboratory colleagues, clinical staff and external agencies.

This is a hands-on role within a supportive pathology team, offering opportunities to develop technical expertise, contribute to service development and support patient safety within an accredited laboratory environment.

Main duties of the job

To carry out a broad range of scientific and technical work within the department as required by biomedical scientist staff.

To carry out a broad range of testing To deal with any spillages of noxious and toxic chemicals and bodily fluids according to standard operating procedures.

To carry out a range of routine technical tasks using analytical skills, the range of tasks will be dependent on the area in which they are working.

To work under supervision as required by managers, either as part of the out of hours service provision or during the normal working day.

To follow quality control procedures as set out in the departmental instructions.

To work accurately and precisely in a conscientious, disciplined and flexible way.

To maintain high technical standards and ensure that such areas in which they work are kept clean and tidy.

To assist in senior staff in the evaluation of new methods and equipment.

To assist senior Biomedical Scientists in stock control and ordering of reagents and equipment.

To carry out routine and emergency maintenance and calibration of equipment both inside and outside the department as appropriate and to identify problems associated with equipment used to your managers.
