Job summary

This is an exciting time for the Dermatology Unit at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust. An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse post, within our established Dermatology team. Our dynamic, motivated team of nurses work across our trust sites to provide the highest standards of evidence-based care to patients and relatives. This post will provide expert care for patients' with chronic long term conditions and suspected skin cancer while guiding development and planning of service delivery for this patient group. This clinically based role; will require you to complete the clinical assessment and examination and is the ideal opportunity for registered nurses.to extend their role further We are looking for self- motivated, enthusiastic nurses with experience in Dermatology if possible but this is not essential as training will be given to those who are keen to further develop their knowledge and skills in a specialist area and who will welcome the exciting and varied opportunities this role will provide. This role will be to work on each of our sites at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

Work under the direction of a specialist (e.g. senior clinical nurse/medical consultant) Undertake health and care needs assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. The role holder is not expected to make independent decisions which may alter patients medical/surgical management plan. Make referrals to support services following Trust policies e.g. district nurses Support and chaperone of clinics Following successful sign off, examples of clinical practice the post holder with be competent to perform phototherapy, suture removal and associated wound care, assisting minor surgery sessions, general advice and support to patients/families/carers, administration of topical treatments, patch testing, diphencyprone treatments, treatment counselling, topical treatment/bandaging, photodynamic therapy and iontophoresis. Developing awareness of own leadership styles and abilities Ability to show some leadership qualities in clinical situations. Supervising non registered staff and mentoring students Support the safeguarding of individuals within your care. Take charge of the department in the absence of senior staff.
