Maternity Support Worker - Bronte Birth Centre

Job summary

The maternity support worker will support the Midwifery team in the provision of optimum midwifery care, planned by a midwife to pregnant women, babies and families within the hospital /community setting. The overarching responsibilities are to support the multidisciplinary team in ensuring women receive individualised, evidence-based care. This role is for a maternity support worker predominantly at Bronte Birth Centre, our standalone birthing unit which is staffed with midwives and maternity support workers, with no obstetric doctor presence.

Main duties of the job

Main duties To assist the Midwife in the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of care of women babies and families Undertake basic care planning and decision making regarding how care is delivered, within the sphere of practice, under the direction of a Registered midwife/ Registered Nurse Provide leadership and supervision as required to Health Care Support workers, delegating tasks as appropriate. To provide a range of clinical duties such as observations, phlebotomy. This list is not exhaustive and is described in the competency package. Have the ability to organise their own daily workload, when delegated. Work flexibly following procedures, guidelines and best working practices within a confidential environment. To provide additional support for women and families with complex clinical or social needs either in community/hospital setting To support and assist women to achieve successful infant feeding in accordance with the local policies and guidelines, giving clear and consistent information. To actively be involved in health promotion Smoking cessation Reducing obesity Breast feeding/infant feeding Supporting mother and baby interaction Supporting women with mental ill health
