An opportunity has arisen to join our innovative service as Specialist Speech & Language Therapist for the stroke/neuro service at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The role will involve working on the stroke wards across Pinderfields and Dewsbury Hospitals and providing a high quality service for our patients who have swallow and communication difficulties following stroke, brain injury or neurological conditions.
You will work alongside skilled and supportive stroke SLT colleagues including a band 4 SLT technical instructor.

The Adult Speech & Language Therapy Team at Mid Yorkshire is a very innovative service and we are focusing on high quality care for patients alongside optimising learning and career development opportunities for staff.
We are a busy department and a team of dynamic, innovative and friendly skilled Speech and Language Therapists. This post will involve supporting band 5 Speech & Language Therapists with training and supervision.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role include:
The role will involve working on the stroke hyper acute, acute and rehab wards across Pinderfields and Dewsbury to provide a high-quality service for our patients who have swallow and communication difficulties.
Therefore effective caseload management skills, experience and knowledge in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with stroke and neurological presentations are required.
The post holder will work flexibly as required to maintain a responsive, patient centred and evidence-based service for optimal patient outcomes. You will support and work with the Service Lead, Team Lead and Clinical Leads for Adult Speech and Language Therapy to enable us to deliver a comprehensive service to adults with a range of disorders of communication and swallowing.
To liaise closely with colleagues in the acute and community settings to facilitate the smooth transfer of care, to contribute to schemes supporting early discharge from hospital and reducing unscheduled admissions to hospital.
To supervise, support and provide clinical education as required to less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, students, and assistants. To lead relevant projects for the SLT service.
Excellent inter-personal, communication, motivational, emerging leadership and team working skills are important components of how we work, in addition to our clinical skills.
