Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 (37.5 hours) Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to work within the Gynaecology Oncology Team at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, which covers a large population providing diagnostic services and delivery of chemotherapy and surgery for early stage gynaecological cancers. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual who has a keen interest in gynaecology and oncology nursing.
Experience in Gynaecology and/or Oncology would be essential. The post holder will be a core member of the Specialist Multi-disciplinary Team both within Mid Yorkshire Teaching hospitals and The St Jamess Institute of Oncology at Leeds where attendance at weekly MDT meetings via Micro Soft teams occurs.
You will work collaboratively with other members of the MDT team to provide the highest standards of specialist nursing care to patients within gynae-oncology.
You will be committed to providing a high quality clinical service within Gynaecology Oncology and have the desire to make a difference to women by delivering evidence based care, implementing change and relevant organisational processes to improve quality.
The post holder will work with senior and junior staff coordinating and delivering quality standards of nursing care.
In addition to the necessary clinical skill you will also be developing your leadership and managerial potential within the department to support the senior Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Main duties of the job
Will undertake specialist assessment of patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery using clinical knowledge and clinical skills.
Manage a patient caseload providing expert assessment, planning and evaluation.
Hold nurse-led clinics for end of treatment and holistic needs assessment
To undertake nurse led clinical for delivering a diagnosis of cancer , to agreed local guidelines and protocols
To undertake non-medical referrer training to be fully competent in requesting diagnostic scans and investigations within agreed gynaecology/oncology scope of practice.
Contribute towards a multi-professional approach in the management of patients within the specialist area, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers / relatives.
Support patients and their families and ensure that they receive the required information to enable them to self-manage, lead or participate in their care delivery.
Recognise changes in-patients condition that require the intervention of others and refer on as appropriate.
Work with the CNS / Team Leader to promote the development of nurses undertaking extended roles as considered appropriate.
Will hold or undertake advanced communication skills training to aid in breaking bad news and communicating in highly emotive situations.
