Job summary

The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital.

Successful applicants will support the Cardiology specialty team in the management of their in-patient & outpatient workload and will participate in the General Medicine Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites.

Our Cardiology team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionate individuals including 15 consultants, 2 Specialty Doctors, 4 Specialty Registrars and 3 core trainees and 3 Foundation trainees. We have invaluable support from a team of specialist nurses based both in our trust and in the community.

Our vision is to deliver patient centered, accessible and integrated services, as seamlessly as possible with primary care. With 11 Coronary Care and 26 Cardiology beds, new diagnostic facilities, and access to a full range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac facilities our team has access to exceptional, modern facilities as well as general imaging, including TTE and TOE, CTCA, CMRI (including stress MR) and Interventional radiology services.

Main duties of the job

Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.

Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate

Out-patient activities - clinics

Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings

These posts are not recognised UK training posts. However, the post-holders will have a named supervisor, and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and specialties.

The Service Role

From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. The illustrative rota pattern is attached to this job description.

Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.

The MYDoc Training Programme Educational Input & Recognition

These posts are designed to help you get the experience needed for the national training program application. There are opportunities to develop your specialist knowledge and skills, lead a quality improvement project and partake in departmental teaching. Many of our previous trainees have successfully got onto a national training program with the help we have provided.

Doctors appointed to a MYDoc post will receive relevant educational input. Each doctor will be allocated an Educational Supervisor and will be required to develop a Personalised Work Schedule.

The weekly timetable should include a balance of these activities appropriate to your grade, role, and training requirements. You are required to maintain a dialogue with your Clinical and Educational Supervisor to ensure the balance of these activities meets your developmental needs.

Whilst not a recognised training post Doctors successfully completing their training programme will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the Trust. Doctors will use established work-place based assessment (WPBA) tools to chart progress and keep relevant evidence in an electronic portfolio system. There will be an annual review of progress based on evidence within the portfolios including the WPBA, 360 assessment, personal reflections and CPD, covering both clinical, personal, and professional development, and a Certificate of Achievement (appropriate to that year/level of training) will be issued.

Terms & Conditions and Tenure

Employment will be as a MYDoc Clinical Fellow on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service.

The initial tenure of post will be 12 months with the option to extend for a further 2 years by mutual agreement and on satisfactory performance.

Appointment as a MYDoc Clinical Fellow is intended to be for a maximum three-year period as part of an individual development programme for the Doctor.

Pay Scale

These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialty training programmes and will be paid on the equivalent pay scale.

The salary scale commences at £61,825 per annum.

Appraisal and Revalidation

This post is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligation to engage with the process of revalidation on an annual basis.

All our Trust appointed doctors are required to engage positively with appraisal and revalidation. The Trust has procedures that comply with national recommendations. As a Trust employed doctor on a fixed term
