The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT) is seeking highly motivated, clinically able applicants; with previous experience of teaching medical undergraduates in a clinical fellow role; to develop their educational and leadership experience working within our highly innovative and exciting medical education team.

These posts have been specifically designed for doctors who have had previous experience working as a clinical fellow in education, teaching medical undergraduates. This role will enable successful appointees to further develop their interest in medical education, as well as develop their organisational and leadership skills.

Alongside teaching commitments, for undergraduate medical students and foundation doctors; senior clinical fellows will be allocated time within their working hours to undertake organisational, leadership, academic and digital innovation activities, identified and agreed with your supervisor.

Senior clinical fellows are expected to provide supervision, support and guidance to the clinical fellow team; providing leadership and managerial expertise in education delivery, and maintain high teaching standards. The responsibilities of this role also include: the organisation of educational activity throughout the year; production of academic content, such as posters and publications, to showcase the MYTT medical education team; and the development of innovative work, including the creation and promotion of digital resources.

Main duties of the job

Additional activities for senior clinical fellows include:

- Management, delivery and quality assurance of all clinical fellow teaching providing observation of teaching and feedback for junior clinical fellows

- Organisation and management of teaching, including rota management

- Co-ordination and delivery of the induction for new clinical fellows

- Scheduling, chairing and recording of educational team meetings and action plans

- Monitoring feedback from teachingand implementing change in accordance with this

- Communicating and working effectively with others, including those within the medical education team, the wider trust and the university

- Creating and updating resources for MYTT medical education

- Producing innovative academic work, such as posters and publications, to showcase the work of the MYTT medical education department

- Supporting medical education faculty to develop educational projects and academic work

- Promoting the profile of MYTT through representation at educational events

- Work on digital innovation to create, review and update resources for MYTT medical education

- Regularly updating the education team on progress and developments of academic work

Successful applicants will work cross-site at Pinderfields Hospital and Dewsbury District Hospital, based within the education centres.

We envisage appointees will organise regular additional clinical locum work, within MYTT, in specialties of their choice, to maintain clinical competencies, provide evidence for revalidation, and gain clinical experience in individuals areas of interest. Locum work needs to be organised around the educational commitments of this post, and remain EWTD compliant, and will be remunerated at published internal locum rates.

This post is not a recognised UK training post. However, the post-holder will have an enthusiastic educational supervisor, and be supported in undertaking a wide range of CV-enhancing activities, as part of their role as a member of the medical education team.

Clinical fellows will have teaching commitments on all their educational days; receiving close mentoring and support to develop as teachers, and will have opportunities to add to and improve existing educational programmes.

At Pinderfields, we have excellent simulation facilities, with clinical skills and simulation rooms, high-fidelity 3G SimMan manikins, medium-fidelity ALS/ SimPad manikins, and an extensive range of part-body simulators. We are currently developing a simulation suite, in the Oakwell Centre, at Dewsbury and District Hospital. Clinical fellows facilitate simulation courses for medical students from Y2-Y5, and for foundation doctors.

Terms & Conditions and Tenure

Appraisal & Revalidation

All our doctors will engage positively with appraisal and revalidation as required. They will have a prescribed connection with Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust via GMC Connect and their Responsible Officer is the MYTT Medical Director.

Continuing Professional Development

The Trust requires all its doctors to engage with continuing professional development, guided by the relevant professional associations or Royal Colleges. Time and funding is provided according to departmental and Trust policies, subject to approval through the clinical management structures. There is a programme of mandatory training which all relevant staff must complete as required.

Research

Medical staff are encouraged to develop areas of personal and/or research interest. This can be developed in liaison with the Trusts R&D department and in line with prevailing policies and research frameworks. The Trust is developing an expanding and outward-looking research programme.

Mentoring

Newly appointed medical staff will be offered mentoring opportunities either within the department or within the wider Trust and may be specified by the appointments committee. There is an induction and development programme for all new staff.

Teaching
