Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Outpatient Physiotherapy team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust for a 30 hours per week Band 7 Senior Specialist Physiotherapist to develop and lead the relaunched Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service. Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has been awarded new funding to develop a specialist obesity service and extend the existing bariatric service to provide an improved, evidence-based service across Wakefield and North Kirklees. It will reduce inequalities by targeting priority groups in line with NICE guidelines. The new Service will replace previous T3 and T4 services to provide a patient-centred, needs based service, which will allow seamless and more timely care for patients who require specialist interventions like bariatric surgery, injectable drugs and non-surgical weight-management programmes. Non-surgical weight-management programmes will include dietetic, clinical psychology and physiotherapy input. Patients will be able to access all parts of the service that are appropriate for them, following multidisciplinary team (MDT) assessment and recommendations.

Main duties of the job

This exciting new Senior Specialist Physiotherapist post will support the development and implementation of the Physiotherapy aspects of the Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service, supported by a Band 3 Therapies technical instructor. The post-holder will work as part of the wider MDT, provide a specialist Physiotherapy service for patients with complex obesity needs through detailed assessment, formulation, and interventions, on a one-to-one and group basis, in both surgical and non-surgical parts of the pathway. Excellent communication and multi-disciplinary team working skills are essential. The post-holder will be required to work cross site and at community venues within the Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust footprint, there may be an opportunity for some remote working. You will jointly lead appropriate education and training of students, therapy staff and other health care professionals including GPs, consultants, the MDT and other AHPs and you will be responsible for the supervision of more junior Physiotherapy staff within the team. The post requires the individual to have specialist clinical knowledge, skills and experience with patients within Specialist Obesity and Bariatric/weight management/population Health services. Post graduate qualifications/learning within these areas and experience innovating within services and leading a team would be an advantage.
