Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is
pleased to announce a vacancy aimed at doctors at any level of training, who
are passionate about their practice and their career outside traditional models.
We will tailor the job to suit
individuals training requirements. Our posts will combine education and career
development with practical patient-facing care.
These posts are not recognised UK training posts. However, the post-holders will have a named
supervisor, and be supported, in undertaking scheduled educational
opportunities within the Trust and specialties.
An opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivated doctors, interested
in plastic surgery and burns, to join our Plastic Surgery Department from August
2024 to August 2025. We may be in a position to offer a further 6 months
contract provided the doctor has achieved satisfactory progress, based on ISCP
portfolio and feedback. Equally, if the doctor fails to show satisfactory
progress, this will be managed accordingly.
During the course of the appointment,
the post holders will be encouraged to develop clinical audit and research
projects ultimately aiming for national and international presentations and
publications.

Main duties of the job
The post holders will be expected
to work on the 1:8 or 1:9 (tbc) registrar on call rota. Depending on the level
of experience, we will endeavour to tailor the post to allow all necessary
competences, to be achieved. For more junior trainees we will help trainees to achieve
required competences for national selection. More senior trainees will be given
the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen sub-specialties.
The
Plastic surgery department, regional burns centre for adults and paediatric
burns unit are situated on the Pinderfields site with outpatient and day-case
services at Pontefract General Hospital and Dewsbury District Hospital. We also
have dedicated hand therapy services at all three hospital sites and plastic
surgery dressings clinic at Pinderfields Hospital. Our adult burns, general
plastic surgery ward, hand therapy unit and plastic surgery dressings clinic
are all co-located on the same floor.

level trainee on call rota, which is compliant with working time regulations

Job responsibilities
The post is equivalent in duties and responsibilities
to a Specialty Registrar.
From a clinical perspective these posts will
participate in the senior trainee rota.
The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor
contract averaging 48 hours per week.
On call arrangements are 1:8 or 1 in 9 (TBC) with
prospective cover for annual and study leave.
It is expected that the post holder will in
conjunction with their assigned educational supervisor undertake a clinical audit
and/or research project. The project must be completed and data prepared for
submission for presentation and publication.
Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields
Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering elective
care to patients on all our sites.
The main duties of the post will include:
Provision
of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and
chronic conditions including complex cases.
Referral
of patients to other specialities as appropriate
Out-patient
activities/clinics
Involvement
in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings
Involvement
in relevant administration duties
Teaching
and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate
Active
involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement
activities

Training Programme Educational Input & Recognition
Doctors appointed to a MYDoc post will receive
relevant educational input. Each doctor will be

The weekly
timetable should include a balance of these activities appropriate to your
grade, role and training requirements.
You are required to maintain a dialogue with your Clinical and
Educational Supervisor to ensure the balance of these activities meets your developmental needs.
Whilst not a
recognised training post Doctors will use established work based assessment (WBA)
tools to chart progress and keep relevant evidence in an electronic portfolio
system. Trainees are expected to record their progress and achievement using
the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Project (ISCP). Failure to record progress on the ISCP portfolio will
be managed accordingly.
Terms & Conditions and Tenure
Employment will be as a MYDoc-Registrar on Trust Terms and Conditions of
Service.
