Job summary

This is a new post a designed for an individual who either has a specific interest in burns management or who has a general or specific interest in plastic surgery but wishes to be part of the burns on call rota in preference to the general acute plastic surgery rota. Speciality development in line with the units needs will be encouraged. This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered.

Main duties of the job

Duties will be based at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. The main duties of the posts will include: Elective Theatre lists day case surgery will take place on the Pinderfields and Dewsbury site. Inpatient and burns/trauma operating we take place on the Pinderfields site. Burns on call duties will be shared between six colleagues. 1 in 6 weekdays and weekends (to coincide with weekend PA activity) Consultant will take part in consultant of the week covering general trauma 1 in 11 weeks. Consultant will take part in consultant of the day covering burns acute 1 in 6 week days and 1 in 6 weekends being responsible for both post operative and new burns referrals. The job plan aligns with specialty association intensity recommendations, with limited elective commitments generally maintained during on-call periods, while retaining the flexibility to cancel such activities when clinical demand or service pressures require. Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. - Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles. Dedicated office space is provided on the Pinderfields site, with access to IT facilities on peripheral sites.

Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. - Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles. • Dedicated office space is provided on the Pinderfields site, with access to IT facilities on peripheral sites. • Administrative support is accessible via the Plastic surgery departmental secretaries.  

• There may be some requirement for cross site working on a given working day. To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

Full GMC Registration with licence to practise. Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastics or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent) by date of interview Medical Degree from recognised medical school FRCS (Plast) or equivalent Sufficient experience at Senior level in to be placed on the Specialist Register. Computer literate. Fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative. Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Burn Surgery. Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision. Ability to work flexibly within a team Eligibility to work in the UK

Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving. Good time management. Ability to contribute to the development of the department, the Trust and its services. Able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients. Caring and compassionate Flexible & adaptable Good team-player Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies. Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies. Holds a valid Driving Licence Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) clearance
