Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our expanding patient centred and supportive Gastroenterology department at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Our team provides specialist Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy services across our 3 hospital sites (Dewsbury District Hospital, Pinderfields General Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary). Our acute inpatient work is provided on the Pinderfields site with outpatient services and endoscopy provided across all 3 sites. Our consultants rotate to provide inpatient care on the specialist inpatient gastroenterology ward. We have a Gastroenterologist of the Week model providing expert advice to the rest of the hospital and helping to deliver urgent endoscopy services. Our gastroenterology team provide a 24/7 GI Bleed on call service. We provide specialist clinics for several conditions including Hepatology, IBD, Cancer and Specialist Nutrition. We currently provide a range of endoscopy services including ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography).

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post include the following: Endoscopy lists including ERCP, and or EUS Key member of local and regional Upper GI (UGI) / Hepatobiliary (HPB) cancer MDT teams Outpatient clinics including HPB, UGI 2-week wait, and General Gastroenterology Provision of inpatient care to the dedicated specialty bed base on a 1:8 rota Contribution to the GI bleed out of hours on-call rota on a 1:8 basis Leadership roles within sub-specialty areas Supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working Support from the professional and experienced secretarial team Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10 PA timetable -Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service -Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles

Full GMC Registration with licence to practise Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology and General Medicine or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent) Medical Degree from recognised medical school MRCP or equivalent Eligibility to work in the UK

Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving Good time management Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services Able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients Caring and compassionate Flexible & adaptable Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) clearance
