Job summary
A volunteer opportunity has become available for a Therapy Group Support for the Hearing voices Group in the Doncaster Care Group.
The hearing Voices Group is delivered by the Community Mental Health Teams and the Early intervention team. It is facilitated by psychological professions alongside a peer support volunteer. It offers a safe, supportive environment where individuals can share their experiences of hearing voices and develop a more positive, informed understanding of them. The group aims to help participants building coping strategies, reduce the distress and impact associated with their experience, and foster a sense of empowerment.
This volunteer role will work together with the team to provide weekly coaching calls to group participants in between the group sessions. This includes providing group reminders to encourage attendance to the group and also to build confidence for patients to practice coping strategies and techniques shared in the group.
This role does not include delivering the group.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would volunteer as part of a team made up of psychological professionals, mental health nurses and STR works to provide coaching calls to the group participants of the hearing voices group.
This role includes keeping a record of the coaching calls and providing these to the clinical team to input to clinical records (guidance will be provided). The volunteer will not be responsible for accessing patient records. There is an expectation that no medical advice is given by the volunteer, and the volunteer would need to escalate any patient questions, concerns or feedback to a member of staff.
Volunteers will be supported by a psychological therapy leads and other clinical staff working into the psychosis pathways.
Access to a laptop and office phone (where required) will be provided in the team office to support this role.
Lived experience or carers experience is not required for this role.
