Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist in Acute Inpatient

Job summary

The postholder will hold 1.5 PA's for Research & Innovation work to be detailed and agreed on appointment with the Care Group Medical Director and the Director of Research & Innovation. The Research element of the role will flex to suit the requirements of the postholder. The Grounded Research Community Clinical Research Facility is based in Doncaster, Tickhill Road Site, but the postholder will be able to work from varying locations to suit the demands of the role.

Grounded Research also has a growing portfolio of Commercial Research that the postholder is strongly encouraged to develop.

The Research team has developed regional, national and international networks to catalyse the research portfolio for the benefit of our communities, including a particular emphasis on commercial clinical trials and our work with Industry.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide senior psychiatric input to the in-patient unit. Duties will include:

  • Psychiatric assessments and initial management of patients admitted to Mulberry Ward for up to the first period of hospital admission (flexible timescale in discussion with other Psychiatrist re handover of cases that can't be discharged after a period of assessment)
  • Key role in determining suitability of patients for early discharge into Home Treatment under the continued care of the post-holder
  • Working closely with the Trust Patient Flow Team around robust bed management
  • Preparation of psychiatric reports for and attendance at mental health tribunals/Managers Hearings.
  • Responsible clinician for patients admitted under the Mental Health Act.
  • To conduct multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds and CPA reviews.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the in-patient team.
  • Play a leading role in Business/Management Meetings for the In-patient Unit
  • Supervision of medical and nursing staff in the Unit.
  • The post holder will take a lead in service development and the implementation of any changes to practice as required in line with evolving evidence and tailored to meet local need.
